The long-awaited Nirvana box set ‘WITH THE LIGHTS OUT’ will feature 68 previously unreleased recordings.

Released on November 22, the four-disc set will feature 81 tracks including 68 previously unreleased recordings - rehearsals, outtakes, Kurt’s home demos, as well as a DVD which is confirmed to have unreleased band home movies, live footage, rehearsal footage and 20 full-length video performances. A 60-page booklet will accompany the release.

The title is a reference to a lyric in ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

A source told NME.COM: “I’ve seen some of the footage and it’s amazing stuff. There’s a video of them performing at a friend’s party with Kurt reading lyrics off a sheet of paper on the wall, footage of them covering ‘Seasons In The Sun’ in a studio with Kurt on drums and lots of other great stuff.”

The artwork for the set is currently being put together, with the likely choice being a ‘landscape’ box, retailing in the region of £40-50.

I’m not Nirvana completist (T? is THE thing for me :D) but I will get it, as any band that I have really liked and releases 68 unreleased tracks and a DVD in a box is a must to me, don’t shoot me for that…
Couldn’t care any less about Courtney Love, she is a pitiful junkie who got her fame just being Mrs. Cobain. Anyone who fucks her way to “stardom” deserves a public spanking or a neck-shot… :D

Doubt this’ll be the last “unreleased” stuff we see from Nirvana, I reckon they’ll be milking them for quite a while yet.

Doubt I’ll buy it but the box does seem quite interesting - £40 on Amazon.

Title: Nirvana Box Set (merged)

I see Amazon is listing a Nirvana 3-disk box set to come out Nov. 23rd. It says something about 81 songs of which 64 are unreleased.

Anyone hear anything about this yet?

Any ideas about the unreleased stuff, are the live or demos?

So what. Let them keep the set. Who benefits from it? Everyone who wants already has this material (bad english due to dutch interference). It’s just another ‘let’s make money out of a dead guy’ trick. But, if you want to buy it, feel free and do so. I’ll not judge you.

I will mostlikely buy that box, like I have said earlier. Why?, some may ask. I just loved “Nevermind” when it came out, it was something special at the time. So much anger in it. To me it was really great to let off the steam by listening to it. A classic record!

About the milking thing that’s just what this world is about nowadays. When some rockstar dies their recordselling goes up the roof just because he/she died. That is stupidity of people, we find dead rockstars more interesting than living…

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was big Queen-fan long time ago but when Freddie died, I lost ALL the intrest to them because people started to buy their records just because he was dead.

There will probably be a posthumous Nirvana release every two years like Jeff Buckley and Tupac.Instead of just releasing a live album i’d rather have a live DVD,some shows were filmed for a video release.

Actually it costs more in Finland (from 67 to 76€) than in UK, as I bought it from Sister Ray in Soho where it costed £39.99 (57€). HMV’s price was £45.99 though…

Haven’t listened to the audio but DVD is great!

It’s just the first words from the chorus of Smells Like Teen Spirit to me. And as the band is no more I think it’s an appropriate choice.
Plus I don’t know if there’s an English expression like ‘jemandem das Licht ausblasen’ so that the title might create no associations to Kurt having his brain blown to pieces.
