(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

C’mon now… Might as well ask who’s better Rob Halford or “Ripper” Owens. Please ;)

It’s Bruce no doubt!

Has anyone seen them live lately? How’s his pipes holding up?

No question about it… Bruce Almighty :)

I saw them in summer 2003 and he was in really great shape. As the whole band apart from Jannick Gers, he just concentrated on posing and fooling around…

bruce is without doubt the true maiden singer, but i really liked di’anno as well, bruce has the advantage cos he did most of their albums but that classic rock sound on their first 2 albums hasnt been matched, they tried it with bruce on last prayer for the dying and fear of the dark and we all know how they turned out

I guess this reads Bruce = steak, Paul = pot noodle. But what’s Blaze then, the lettuce leaf to decorate the meal, which usuallyremains on the plate totally ignored?

I’ll definitly go for the steak then, pot noodles only when you come home drunk in the middle of the night.

I’m a steak kind of man. I just got Live After Death, A Real Live Dead One and Live at Donington, a real Dickinson-celebration. I guess it’s not a wonder they didn’t release Blaze-era live albums, but I would have liked to listen to one.

Did they re-release the old stuff in Europe?

A few years back in the US, Sanctuary Records re-released all of the old Capitol records albums, with a second disk with each one. It was cool each extra disk had all of the B-Sides and some live tracks associated with the album. With Killers the second disk was the whole Maiden Japan EP.

I have to admit Paul Dianno wasn’t bad, just doesn;t compare to Bruce.

I also love that they released on CD the LP version of Live After Death with the super-long extended running free, and the extra side with the songs performed at Hammersmith. For the longest time the CD version of Live After Death didn’t have any of that.

Now if I can just find it on DVD. Back in 1985 they actually played the concert on MTV (yes folks MTV actually played music once, and even live stuff from people who played instruments) and I was able to tape it. But of course that tape died a long time ago :(

People wants to see Iron Maiden at least in Scandinavia as they sold 51000 tickets to Göteborg gig in 2 and half hours. In Finland they sold 11000 tickets in 50 minutes and they added extra date due to the “public demand”…

I actually prefer PD over Bruce. I don’t really go for all the high pitched vocal stuff, but I still love most of Maiden’s stuff. I still think their first album was the best, then Killers, then Brave New World. I can’t stand Blaze Bailey- especially when Steve Harris did backing vocals with him- just listen to ‘Virus’- Blaze ruined that song.

I really like Blaze. Althoug he couldnt sing the trooper well he sang fear of the dark and afriad to shoot strangers better than Bruce did.

Generally, Di anno sings dianno songs the best, Bruce sings bruce songs the best and blaze sings his own songs the best. There are a few exceptions…

Bruce is Maiden, full stop. Paul Di’anno was great for those first two albums but I don’t think he’d sound that great on Run To The Hills or The Trooper.

With Bruce, he just gets the crowd going. I saw Maiden in Cardiff last year, and everyone in the hall just listened to what he said, even though the crowd boo’d when their Earls Court gig was mentioned. But he gets a response, and that is something.

I never got into the Blaze era. During that time, I must admit, I lost interest in Maiden. I recall there were high hopes for Blaze to be Bruce’s replacement and after two albums he was out. Just reading the gig reviews just said it all - he was no Bruce.

This might sound stupid but Bruce’s voice is “too perfect” for a metal band.
