Great Bass Riffs

#

Started by FNYANKEZ

Okay we’ve done the Great Guitar Riffs threads. How about some classic Bass riffs?

My all time favorite- the simple but sweet Peace Sellls from Megadeth. Any metal song which appears in an MTV promo for 15 years has got to be strong. (It was the exit music for the MTV News segments, and may still be. It alternated with the scratching sound clip).

Some others
Naseua-T?
Strange Days- The Doors
Joe #1- Fugazi
Higher Ground- Red Hot Chili Peppers (I don’t remember the originals bass line being this strong)

Dazed and Confused- Led Zepplin
Would?- Alice in Chains
Wrathchild- Iron Maiden
Killers - Iron Maiden
Dirty Movies- Van Halen

Does he just mess about with the tuning on his bass to play it, or does he have a 6-string? I really want a 6-string Peavey Grind bass…

not a clue, he does have a 5 string so it might be a bit easier on that, but I couldn’t really say

Have you seen the video for laquerhead? When they stop a bit of the way in and he does some fucking crazy stuff!

I can play that bit in Laquerhead… but I need a plectrum, and its more than likly very wrong. The hardest bit to play in that song is the chorus, or the ‘keep on sniffin’ break part. But Les Claypool IS bass GOD end of story.

Looking forward to that. Live show includes all frizzle fry songs and some more older stuff. I think that is a thing most bands are afraid of. Doing shows like in the good old days :)

Actually, ignore me saying I could play Laquerhead. Its not even close. The only Primus Song I can even kind of play is ‘those damn blue collar tweekers’. I tried to play ‘Mr. Krinkle’ in school on the double bass, but my bow technique leaves much to be desired.

The Toys Go Winding Down and American life from the DVD are incredible songs that I hadn’t heard before. Also, check out the two-finger tapping on Rapscallion!

I thought Jerry Was A Racecar driver would have been really hard because it is all two-finger tapping and I found that quite difficult on a bass. I thought you only needed a 25th fret? Couldn’t you just hit the edge of the fretboard to get that?
