AS usual, Newcastle has been left out of the first round of gigs, anyone else in the North East pissed off about the lack of decent venues????

Title: Riverside

Very probably the greatest venue in the UK.
Darkly decorated, surly bar staff, and some terrible local support bands…
Had some fucking excellent nights there.
Jane’s Addiction in 1990 for starters.
Killing Joke seemed to play there every few months, or at least that’s what it felt like.

Any band that was worth a damn played the Riverside.
Never ever thought I’d miss a venue.
And now they’re talking about pulling Glasgow Barras down.
What is the world coming to?!

Still places to play in the North East.

Newcastle Uni, University of Northumbria, Middlesborough Town Hall are the ones straight off the top of my head.

Last tour Newcastle didn’t get booked till the last minute, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this time.

Wildhearts are playing at Sunderland, missing out Newcastle all together for some reason.

I always liked the Mayfair in Newcastle, that is a shopping complex now. As if there wasn’t enuff shops in Newcastle anyway - bastards!!!

Bloody hell, a shopping complex!
I remember being told it was knocked down, something to do with a new car park.

Good venue, big, huge horse-shoe balcony, although the beer was bloody expensive - can of warm red stripe in 1991 was £2.40.

Remember seeing Jane’s Addiction there too - along with Primus as a support.
And Nirvana, who were good, but why they brought Shonen Knife escaped me.

O.K, so the Riverside is now a charver nightclub (foundation???). But they seem to be starting to book live bands again so you never know (so it was travis, but the quireboys are booked for next year).

Anyway, I’m hoping to do Leeds by train, the last one leaves for newcastle at 23:48. Anyone know what time gigs finish at the cockpit?

they finish around 11 I think, and its right next to the station so you’ll have plenty of time to get the train
