I think Jude the Obscene is about a kid made to feel inferiour, worthless and all around emotionally neglected by his parents. I think the child was unwanted as well, perhaps the mom was ashamed of having the child (maybe because she got pregnant young?) Or maybe there was something with the kid which she thought was embarrising, maybe he was slow or socially awkward..

Ten Year Plan is pretty simple. Talking about life in the music biz and their current state in it.

Sister- (I think) is a man’s (Andy’s?) conversation with a mental institution nurse. Basically he’s gone a bit nuts after years of hectic life of the road in a band. “Miles of Wires, flourescent lights…”

To me the whole album seems to have an undertone of the band being disillusioned after years in the biz. Which fits since SPYF was the first release after A&M dropped them
