Isis

I’m just listening to their new album Panopticon on repeat. It’s such an awesome piece of music. everyone into Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Aereogramme (I know that’s nearly only me here :) ), Oceansize or even Amplifier (am I the only one who finally appreciates them during this tour though they’re nothing compared to the other bands mentioned) should check them out.

Been wondering about Isis for a while, as a big fan of the Godspeed boys and their various side projects. I get the impression - rightly or wrongly - that Isis are rather heavier, though?

They are, an impression you mostly get through the heavy vocals. But the music is as airy and droning as it can be.
They could also be compared to Earth, an old instrumental band on Sub Pop (one of the guys gave the rifle to Kurt Cobain with which he left this place…).

Which Neurosis album do you recommend? The only song I’ve heard is “Locust Star” (which I loved), so I’m interested in anything similar to that! I just love that fuckin’ dense heavy crushing sound! :)

Not only have we just heard that a fourth album is in the process, but Aereogramme will also be teaming up with the brilliant Isis for an In The Fishtank session. These sessions are run by the Dutch label Konkurrent and will see the band recording over a couple of days to produce a record (which will no doubt have a cool fishy or some other aquatic feature on the cover). So will we get epic slow-burners juxtaposing Aaron Turner’s satanic growl and Craig’s angelic, soaring vocals? We will have to wait and see…

If you have a look at the Konkurrent site you’ll see that Isis and the ‘Gramme are going to stand in a line with such great bands as Sonic Youth, Tortoise, Motorpsycho, Nomeansno or Snuff.

Thought they were, I have a thing for Mike pattons label I’ve enjoyed everything he has done bar his two “solo” albums and the stuff on his label always has a bit of a twist which i like.

I have Oceanic and Panopticon and they’re both really good but i think Oceanic might be a good starting point.

Still haven’t got around to getting any Isis albums, due to listening to Neurosis’ back catalogue constantly for the last 6 months or so… superb stuff!

Anyone interested in checking out Neurosis should go for;
Times of Grace, Eye of Every Storm, Sun That Never Sets - in that order, their last three albums as it happens.

Can anyone recommend the “Tribes Of Neurot” side-project/experiment stuff that they’re doing? Or the collaboration album with Jarboe? I’m interested in getting some of that stuff but have no idea really what to expect.
