tricky… out of all the studio albums I probably listen to Masters of Reality the most but I suppose everyone will come up with a different one - but if I had to choose I would say Masters… or Vol 4

I’d say get Master Of Reality, it has great tunes as Sweet Leaf, After Forever, Children Of The Grave and Solitude. But they are the songs that are probably in a best of too… I only have compilation called “Between Heaven & Hell” and “Master Of…” and haven’t had urge to get anything else.

With a bit of shopping around, you can find all of the Ozzy era albums at very low prices.

Apart from the last two, Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die, which are patchy, they are all pretty much worth starting with.

If your budget allows (or you have a vacant spot on your Xmas list) why not go for the box set of ALL the Ozzy-era CD’s?

It’s called “Black sabbath - The Complete 70’s Replica CD Collection” - 8 CD’s in total, you shouldn’t have to pay more than £29.99 if you shop wisely.

Personally, I find the albums very short and they have their fair share of filler tracks, but there are also some real gems worthy of any rock fan’s collection.

Enjoy!

Well of course they are very short. They were recorded 3 decades. All that was available were 8-Tracks and Vinyl”

The OZZY era box-set is definitely the best way to start.
Much cheaper than getting them all individually.

The DIO albums are excellent also…!!!!

Isn’t there two different box-sets out?

The American one has a 4 track DVD and an 80 page booklet. I think it’s called The Black Box. That one could be more worthwhile, but harder and more expensive to get hold of.

I saw that boxset on Amazon its a very tempting and expensive.I’m already getting the Nirvana boxset this week, and with bills etc and its getting too near Christmas to be extravagant.Theres a music shop near me that has nearly all the Black Sabbath’s for £7.99 each i figured on getting a couple of them and then fill in the gaps a few months later. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Heres that boxset Alan mentioned

You should try albums like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Vol. 4, Master Of Reality, Paranoid etc. The original Black Sabbath is still the best.

Hmmmm, funny how other artists of the time managed longer albums then, huh?!

I think that vinyl in the early 70’s could stretch to 20 minutes per side maximum. Then they managed to stretch to 25 minutes or so. But who cares. Never mind the quantity. Look at the quality.

Anyway…

Buy these 6 first in this order of genius…

Sabotage (well, duh!)
Vol 4
Master of Reality
Paranoid
Black Sabbath
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Then you could pick up Technical Ecstacy when you feel rich and Never Say Die when you feel a bit completist because apart from a few tracks, it’s poor.
