Therapy? Tribute CD??

#

Started by deadcase

I was wondering if there has ever been a Therapy? tribute cd put together by fans bands before? anyone know if this has already happened or whether or not they think it is a good idea?

… a few months ago a cool person from this messageboard helped me track down a midi file for Screamager as I fancied playing the tune and also doing a revised version of it with my band (which is now a duo, but still plays the song)… so too cut a long story short… we were thinking about recording the tune for our own pleasure and thought that if it were too turn out alright… then with permission from the band of course… it could go on a Therapy? tribute cd with a large percentage of profits going to a charideeee of the bands choosing or something…

hahaha.. nah it’s a crap idea isnt it!! hahah

mind you I would be interested to hear other bands versions of Therapy? tunes… I know that fans of Godflesh used the Godflesh messageboard to put together a tribute cd and it sold out such was the demand… that was also with the permission of J.K.Broadrick sooo… hmmmmmmm?!?!?! thoughts please peoples :)

oh yeah… if my band/duo (http://www.deadfriendinasuitcase.co.uk plug plug hahaha) were to take part in anything like a fans band tribute cd… we would probably sumbit our version of Screamager even though I know a good few bands have used this track before… I havent heard anyone do a similar version to the version we do (yet)… kind of like a Godflesh meets Arch Enemy and Iron Monkey version hahahaha

I am a bit too busy to look through past posts at the moment but as soon as I have the time this week I will and hopefully something will come of this… even if it is a cdr which could be sent to the band to give’em a laugh I’d be well chuffed to be a part of something like that as I have the utmost respect for the Therapy? blokies…

p.s. hahaha I have just listened to the Unite version of Screamager and I am really surprised hahaha and whilst it is similar to the version we do… our version is faster and more ‘hair metal’ hahahahaha

Anyone have a digital studio? (the portable little recorders not an actual studio..but if you do, congrats!)

I’d like to do a experiment where I’d post a guitar track for a T? somewhere (I don’t have place at the moment) and then other musicians/singers add tracks of their own for guitar, bass etc, and then we mix them together and see how it comes out to complete the song.

I have a BOSS digital studio which allows me to record a single track (or multi) and save it as a .WAV file

And I have some mixing software (which I currently suck at using), where I can put all of the .wav files together and save it as an MP3.

When it’s done maybe see if they could post it here for all to laugh at.

Now I just need to practice up on using the stupid thing.

Getting the drums will probably be the tough part…as long as we don’t try and sell anything we should be cool..I hope..

Maybe we can get the band to critique the tracks…

There is a good chance that the lads that were in Unite could be involved in contributing their ‘screamager’ cover as my friend has recently been in contant with Liam of Burning Skies about arranging a gig with them up in Newcastle in the not so distant future… my friends bro, a good mate of mine has already gigged with the Burning Skies lads not so long ago so who knows… we might even get a Burning Skies Therapy? cover out of this as well as the Unite cover… we can only really act on ideas like these when a green light is issued by the lads in Therapy? really… so if anyone knows how to get the guys permission to go ahead and see what happens… maybe even a label like Blackfish or Century Media might be interested in doing the distro and manufacturing?!… theres a lot involved if we all want to make this a good tribute cd…

I’ve got one of those Boss 305 protable digital recorders. If you posted up a guitar file, it’d need to be in .wav format, and the timing would need to be pretty perfect. Better to post up a drum file first, since I’ve got no way of recording drums. Up until now, I’ve been using a drum machine, and I’ve actually got a version of Dancin’ With Manson recorded somewhere.

About a year ago my band donated a version of “If Only” for a similar idea/album on the Queens of the Stone Age website.

I’m not sure what happened the song, if a cdr of tribute tracks was ever circulated among traders or not, but it was good fun recording it and making it available for people.

I’ve been doing the hard way. Listen to the original through headphones and play. It just makes it tough to monitor how your guitar sounds on the recording. I didn’t like the way mine sounded hooked directly into the recorder, so I now use a cab mic, so I can get the full sound of my setup.

I agree though, a lot easier if you start with the drums first.

Anyone have a place where these could be posted?

I agree. I think it should also be done just for the hell of it, no money involved.

Anyway to ask the band?

Maybe see if they’ll pick their favorite, and post it on the website?

i’m going in to the studio in january/february with a few projects, i’d love to contribute with studio quality material. just a decision of which track to do. A version of Bad Mother that uses guitars instead of cellos is on my list of things to do one day.

I think it’s in F minor (not too sure) scales are difficult to learn (for me anyway)

But the basic chords I play are the bass line:

F - A flat - C
E flat - G - B flat
C - E flat - G
D flat - F - A flat

I am still working on the melody line…
