Whatever happened to the Babyteeth-songs?

What can possibly be the reason? Not even Innocent X in Tilburg? And the reason why I´m making a new thread about this, is the fact that those songs were not played for a few shows already… why oh WHY?

I mean, it´s always nice to see that they can play Stories without the cello, but we´ve heard that song already a million in the Benelux, right?

In a world without internet, bands could play the same setlist over and over again and surprise audiences everywhere with the same unexpected treasure in the encore every night, because nobody knew what to expect. BUT thanx to the internet (and to these messageboards in perticular) we get spoilers all the time, one hour after most shows some nuthead already posted the setlist. And admit it: it´s hard not to peak.

So here´s what I suspect Therapy? might have thought (and forgive me my sarcasm): Okay, so we´re gonna do Loser Cop and Innocent X on our next tour. Wait a minute, since we played Dancin´ With Manson (and also Skyward and Punishment Kiss) on our last tour with Neil on drums, that means if we play the most unexpected gem (Animal Bones) we have played the whole of Babyteeth live. We´ll even throw in Meat Abstract a few more times, because we like it so much. And this is what we´ll do next: everybody will think that Innocent X is a regular in the set, and that we´ll play another Babyteeth cut during the encore, and then after a few days we will stop playing them! And on top of that: Long Distance seems to be the majority´s favorite of our last album (and our best fans are not happy with only Babyteeth, they´re the only ones that wanna hear our new stuff), so let´s not play that song in Tilburg, also! It´s gonna be hilarious, we´ll do Stories and Turn, and then some wanker on the Wall Of Mouths will start complaining about it! Great! It´s alway nice to see someone wining about his favorite band…

Okay, I could have told the above in two lines: When I got home yesterday after Tilburg, I had the feeling I went all the way to a Chelsea game where Kezman and Robben didn´t play! Isn´t Andy a Chelsea fan? Somebody tell him this, I know that our favorite band aren´t robots and that they have to please themselves also, but dropping all of Babyteeth is just outrageous…

I can go on and on about T?´s setlist-policy… but let´s end on a positive not: damn, those live versions of Die Like A Motherfucker and especially Perish The Thought are absolutely brilliant! And Isolation couldn´t have been better…

it really was a great show, but without Babyteeth songs you just know that a lot of people will be dissapointed (don´t deny it),

It would really be interesting to get to know whether they chnage the setlist during a tour according to the reception the songs get.

That´s what I´m thinking: the reception certain songs get. I´m almost certain that´s the main reason… I still think they should´ve kept Innocent X!

But then again: does a song like Epilepsy go down better with audiences than Innocent X? Just because a lot more people have Infernal Love? And talking about reception: I kinda had the feeling that Sister cooled things down a bit yesterday… and I always hate that “measuring time in spoons” bit at the end.

As much as I love the early songs and would die to hear tunes like “Animal Bones”, “Skyward”, “Fantasy Bag”, etc., I would be just happy if they play as many songs as they could from NANE. Which they have done so far, 8 in one gig is a hell of much and I respect that.

Our dearly beloved trio ain’t AC/DC who plays just one song from the current album and then “oldies” and don’t get me wrong I love AC/DC as well!!!

yeah but then again you can say, they play 7 songs (knives, screamager, nowhere, die laughing, unbeliever, turn and isolation) from troublegum? 8 songs from NANE?

10 year old album? i could live with just “Turn” or “Femtex” :) well better both. Femtex with some sweetie on vocals *g*

however … the troublegum thing with the setlist is a problem or not a problem on every tour so far … expect the infernal love tour … i think that was a great set list … most troublegum songs and infernal love songs … i loved the gig in 95!

Title: Hey boring old fart!

…and that´s why I also wrote how much I loved Die Like A Motherfucker and Perish The Thought live! My dream setlist would actually be:

POTATO JUNKIE
NOWHERE
DIE LAUGHING
SCREAMAGER
RISE UP
DIE LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER
PERISH THE THOUGHT
HERE BE MONSTERS
SO CALLED LIFE
PANIC
POLAR BEAR
ROCK YOU MONKEYS
DEAD
LONG DISTANCE
THIS SHIP IS SINKING
SERVE THE SERMON
LAST ONE TO HEAVEN´S A LOSER
IF IT KILLS ME
RUST

NAUSEA
MEAT ABSTRACT
INNOCENT X
TEETHGRINDER
KNIVES

And change the 5-song every night, with songs like Turn, Loser Cop, Animal Bones, Femtex, Trigger Inside on and on and on… How´s that for a set?

I was very satisfied actually with yesterdays setlist: It’s up to the boys whatever they want to play, you can’t please’em all. I think the variety in their setlist is great. It keeps it interesting for themselves as well…Here be monsters, Rock you Monkeys, Stories…Great!

Quite good actually!

We talked with my girlfriend yesterday in sauna about the setlist and we both agreed that we heard enough “Potato Junkie”, “Nowhere”, “Screamager” and all the other “hit” songs from the 90’s which they are “doomed” to play but the thing is like Ronald says you simply can’t please all in the audience.

Like they say; Another man’s honey is another man’s shite… :p

I think the setlist for this tour (a bit much off troublegum perhaps…) is nicely balanced. Of course there are always songs you want to hear, but the band won’t play them.

and: I would be well gutted if they wouldn’t play nowhere, screamager and potato junkie on one of the gigs I attend.

*says a man who is into the band since 1994 and has heard the above mentioned songs very, very often*

Yeah he did that on previous shows as well… but no clue what the hell he was actually saying :D Probably missing his Evil Priest period when he was doing the lead vocals :D

I guess it’s disappointing when you see Animal Bones, Loser Cop, Innocent X, Meat Abstract, … showing up in sets at other shows and the one you’re attending does not have 1 on the setlist… as said in another thread, the trick is still to try to attend as many shows as possible… although I realise not everyone is as insane as I am

Title: Fyfe and Neil sharing shirts?

That’s just hilarious… Meat Abstract was on the setlist for the Melkweg show, AND THEY DIDN’T PLAY IT!

They probably just read this post or something…

And by the way: everyone check your I Want My Money Back bootleg-cover and pictures of last nights show. Pretty amazing, huh? I’m talking drummers t-shirts here…

Well spotted, man! Yeah, I remember Fyfe and his “Cop Shoot Cop” t-shirt. I suppose it’s no real suprise Neil has one since he was in The Beyond all those years ago - they probably toured with Cop Shoot Cop, just like Therapy? did. I am kinda surprised he’s still wearing it though - it must be knackered by now!
