Blame Dean, not me. I asked him if I should rate it out of 5 or 10 and he went “Out of 7”. Who the fuck has a scale that goes from 1 to 7? Out of 5 I’d say… 3 or 4.

First single, “The Hand That Feeds” should be familiar to most die-hards as the video has been available online for a few weeks now. If you haven’t heard it it’s very pop, very funky and very good.

Well, I’d say it’s pretty boring.

I thought so too the first few times I heard it, but when I heard it at the listening party I really got into it and after I saw it performed live I think it’s great!

It’s one of those songs that really divide the NIN fans I think. Half of the people I speak to think it sucks, the other half love it.

Having said that, “The Line Begins To Blur” hasn’t started to sound good to me, and I must have heard at least 15 times by now.

I’ve heard that one quite a lot and it sounds fantastic… I have always found that NIN albums are growers. I hope this one is the same

I’m hoping it’ll grow on me along with the rest of the album. It’s frustrating to write a review based on one listen, but I guess that’s all Universal want to allow in order to stop early leaks of the album.

I didn’t even like The Fragile when I first heard it, I thought there was way too much material on there and that it should have been cut down to one album, but now I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jeordie White is uglier without make-up. Considering the guy is one hell of a fast-picker, I’m surprised there aren’t faster songs on the album. He did an excellent job live! The band were really tight, some songs were so close to the original recordings that if I didn’t know any better, I would have thought they were miming. Adam North is great too, OTT guitar shapes aplenty. Trent looks a lot healthier now, tanned, smiling and quite muscly.

Since 1999’s ‘The Fragile’ double album, Reznor has sobered up…

No, he’s clean now and the new album was written clean.

well, some bands manage to keep the energy and creativity up when they sober up, but a lot don’t.

I think With Teeth is very good and they might attract some new fans with this album.I’ve only listened to it twice but it’s a getting a thumbs up from me,it’s been worth the wait i just hope Trent doesn’t leave it another five or six years before he releases the next NIN album.

i’m still incredibly sceptical about this new album. i’ve listened to that single a few more times and i really do not like it. there’s never been a nine inch nails song before (give or take some of the dodgy remixes) that i haven’t liked. i’m sure trent said around the time of “the fragile” that he was off the drugs then though? perhap’s he get’s clean enough to make an album then spends the next four years fucked on drugs, sobers up and put’s out another album. to be honest though, whatever this album is like, it’s going to be hard to top “the downward spiral” or “the fragile” for me anyway.

also, does anyone else think that in the video for “the hand that feeds” trent has had a few too many pies?

The new album is nowhere near as good as “The Downward Spiral” or “The Fragile”. But it’s good enough to buy.
