Does Keanu Reaves deserve to die horriblly for the blasphemous version of hellblazer or not? Black leather coat?!? Keanu smoking in every sceen?!?

Its called Constantine now instead of Hellblazer apparently Gavin Rossdale(yup the singer from Bush) is also in the film.I saw a bit of the trailer and i think visually the film looks good i hope the script can match it but with Keanu Reaves lack of acting skills he might ruin what could have been a really cool film.I hope hes better than he was in the two Matrix sequels.

2.) He’s British, not American. Reeves couldn’t pull off an accent (my guess) so they just said “Ah, to hell with it, the name will pull people in”.

So who do I think would have played a better John Constantine? Easy… Tim Roth (sp?), ya know, from Reservoir Dogs, the Legend of 1900, etc… I thought for sure he’d be a shoe in.

1) He’s American (not much of a spoiler there)
2) He quits smoking at the end of the movie
3) Chaz isn’t his drinking buddy but his apprentice and he dies..this was the one thing that pissed me off

But they do grab some cool bits right out of the comic
1) He gets cancer
2) He screws over the devil in typical Constantine fashion
3) The devil gets rid of his cance (even though it was a demon giving him a blood transfusion in the books)

Outside of the few things which are obviously pissers, the overall story isn’t bad, but I doubt Keanu can really pull off the attitude. I give him credit though for taking on cult classic type roles most people wouldn’t touch. (First cyberpunk and now Constatine) And it’s great that JC gets a little exposure.

I’m definitely going to see it and judge it on it’s own merits.
