What is the best Guitar shop in the UK?

#

Started by Zebedee

I was recently doing the rounds of music shops in Edinburgh and I stumbled across a store called GuitarGuitar. This is well the best guitar shop I have ever seen. They must have at least 700 guitars on the walls and loads of cool backline gear too.
It would appear that they also have a Glasgow store even bigger!!

Has anyone else been in a store that can compete??

I have bought an amp and a guitar in seporate transactions from Merchant City Music in Glasgow. These purchases were by telephone, as I live 500 miles away!

It is a shit to try the gear out, but if you know what you want, these chaps do the business.

I think Strings Guitar Centre on the Isle of Wight has to be the most nicest and helpful place I’ve been to.
And generations of good service has proven this.

They also make custom guitars, including the ones Matt from Muse uses.

@Joe, some of that site has been under construction since mid 2003. (and I’m holding you personally responsible :p)

@Andys Gibson SG: Do you know how that place compares to Nevada? I’ve never been to (or heard of) the place you mentioned. Nevada’s new premises are pretty impressive.

3. So what? It’s not like the shop’s gone out of business. Ever heard of a phone? Hmmm? Commie. The people there are friendly, which I pretty much never find in guitar shops. Why are people who work in guitar shops always so intimidating? I went to a few here in London on Denmark Street and… what. a. bunch. of … tossers. The people who just sit there all day trying out guitars are worse though - mid/late 30’s working in McDonald’s thinking they’re so cool just wailing away.. FUCK THEM.

The shops on Denmark St. are pretty good, but I just never seem to get on with staff in guitar shops. I did buy my lovely Gibson SG from one of them.

It’s a ‘97 left-handed model with a dark red finish. The Gibson website doesn’t seem to have a pic of the finish though - the only red finish (Cherry Red) is way too bright. Mine’s more wine red.

sound control have some good stock in but some of them, they’re a bit like vultures on occasion, i suppose thats sales people for ye!

my mate just bought himself a tascam 4-track from there, he had to get that, a mic., a mic. lead and some headphones, cost him just over £160 altogether, wouldnt give him any kind of discount, they usually do there though, they’re quite good, and will always match a price if you find it cheaper elswhere!!

speaking of which just tried out some new schecter guitars, thru-necks, variations on tele, strat and les-paul, very nice and not bad at £399, the tele ones got 2 seymour duncan humbuckers in too!!
