rammstein, 3rd feb, brixton

well well,

a rammstein gig is like no other gig on the planet. the set was very much reliant upon the new album “reise, reise” and the “mutter” album. from “sehnsucht” we got the title track and obviously “du hast”. from “herzeleid” we got “wollst ihr das bett…” and “rammstein”. and during the encore we got the depeche mode cover “stripped” as a finale. anyway, as a rammstein gig is much more about the actual show than the songs here are some points about the gig:

1. when they first came on it appeared as though they had shirt and ties on and were shining strong torches into the audience. they then all turned around and it went “boom!”. at this point the backdrop falls down to show that the band are actually behind the curtain playing the first song and the guys with the torches are just there to fuck with our heads.

2. flake (the keyboard player) did the now customary trip around the venue in a rubber dinghy during “Stripped”.

3. during “mein teil” til wore a chefs outfit and put flake into a big cauldron. he then proceeded to cook the aforementioned keyboardist by use of a flamethrower.

4. they used a series of moving hydraulic platforms throughout the whole show to get them between the different levels of the stage set-up. it was a multi layered affair.

5. til did not have his fake phallus present. There was no ejaculating upon the audience nor sodomising of keyboard players.

6. the fire breathing helmets worn by the guitarists however were present.

i have never seen such a pyro-techinical show before. i saw rammstein last time they played brixton (on the “mutter” tour) but this new stage show is something else. and it takes a lot to impress me.

anyway, maybe i’ve said too much. or maybe not enough. it took me a long time to type all that out and i’m rather drunk anyway. so, goodbye. :)

face value was £25, but with booking fees and all, it was just over £30.

also, i noticed a glaring error in my first post… we didn’t get “wollt ihr das bett…”, it was “du riechst so gut”. see, thats what happens when you post messages when you’re drunk. oops.
