Am I right in thinking that suicide is no longer a criminal offence in Britain? commit suicide, commit murder, commit adultery. There should be a better way of saying it.
I bet there is.

probably, english has lots of obscure rules.
I never understood why it was a crime, if they kill themselves then how can they be prosecuted. If they fail then its attempted suicide and not actual suicide…hmmm

You’re right on your first point, don’t always blame others for your problems.
As for your second point, give it your best shot :).

Apparently, and against all expectation, Infernal Lover’s verb was right.
‘A woman suicided for this.’ is actually a legitimate way of using the word. (Possibly ‘suicided herself’, though that’s obvious from the context) Even so, it’s still just oh so very wrong.
Incidentally:
Apparently, in some places attempted suicide is (or was) punishable by death.
Suicide has been legal in Britain since ‘61 (yay! ;))
And in some places actual suicide was punishable by having all your worldly possessions confiscated. So nothing left for the will.

Basically one tries to kill himself, *accidentally* fails and survives…then gets prosecuted.
