Housing (split thread)

Actually I was genuinely thinking of selling…!!!

Banks will only loan you a certain amount, depending on your circumstances. The mortgage from the bank is covering the costs of the building contractor.
But everything else, like kitchen fittings, bathrooms fittings, beds, appliances, etc., is basically down to ourselves to save up for and buy.
We’ve been buying bits and pieces on and off ofer the last year or so. And have quite a bit already. But there’s still a shit load of things we will need.

But like I said previously.
I have a few other things I can sell before I have to turn to my precious T? collection.
Even if I can only afford to hold on to them for another few months before I’m forced to sell, I’ll take those few months over any amount of cash.

Also! I don’t need to go fishing to see what they are worth.
I know exactly what they’re worth…!!!

A lot more than any amount of money that anyone could ever offer.

But anyway!!!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I won’t have to sell!

.

do I get it right: You need to sell your own precious properties in order to pay for your house and everything else that comes along with it. Why? I mean, I think it’s more important that you can still eat what you want, drink what you want, and can do what you want( going out, concerts, holiday etc) instead of having to watch your expenses all the time because your mortgage is so damn high…” Yeehaa…Mince again”…

I have got an old car—-> it serves its purpose
I have got a roof above ny head—>it serves its purpose
I do loads of nice stuff and eat what I want—>it serves MY purpose!

What I am saying is: Do you really think you’ll be happy if you have to turn around every penny?

I I got it wrong I haven’t said anything of course;)

Maybe that’s exactly the reason why he wanted to sell?

OK! Roland…

I’m living in IRELAND. The most expensive country in the world. Well! In Europe anyway…
We have a mortgage to build the house. That’s all it covers.
Plus the cost of a site. I’m not telling what ours cost, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a decent site in IRELAND for under €120,000.
It doesn’t have to be a “CASTLE” to be damn expensive in this country.

Everyhthing else! Like I mentioned above, we have to get off our own backs. Kitchen fittings, bathrooms fittings, beds, appliances, etc.
What the fuck’s the point of building a house, if you don’t have all the stuff mentioneed above to move in to it.

Are we supposed to roast marshmallows in the fireplace and roll out a couple of sleeping bags as if it’s a big fucking tent we’ve moved into.
I DON’T THINK SO…!!!!!

We’re both nearly 30. We want to start a family. Neither of us have any intention of doing that if we can’t provide for it the best we can.
So if it means I have to sell some stuff now to fit a kitchen, I will…

Our saleries can only get us so much. We have no intention of starving ourselves to get what we want. That’s just stupid.
I too have an old car.
I currently have a roof over my head that’s costing nearly as much as the mortgage we’ll be paying.
I love going to concerts. But I’ll skip a few if I have to.

When I started this post I had every intention of selling them. I could have sold them on eBay, but to be quite honest, I’d prefer to see them go to somebody on this forum.
I’ve traded with quite a few people from these pages and I know that if one of them got them, that they’d be in good hands.

Also! I don’t just have a few rare THERAPY? items to sell. I have a shit load of rare stuff that I’ve collected over the years.
Collectors boxsets. Signed CD’s and Vinyls by a number of bands. As well as a lot of none music related collectors items. And just some simple common houshold stuff that we won’t need once we do eventually move.
I even have 2 original first pressings of BLACK SABBATH’s PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY LP’s.

But anyway! Like I also said in this thread.
I’m going to hold off for a while. See how we get on. We have at least 8 months to go before it will be finished. If we can get 80-90% of what we need, we should be OK. Just get the rest after we move in, when we can afford it.
If I can hold on to everything in my collection, I would be delighted. I’d prefer not to sell any of it.
Just sell what we want to sell. Not what we have to sell.
But who knows what the future will bring…!!!!

If you want to stay driving an old car. Throw your money away on rent(if you’re not living at home). And basically just not want to better your standard of living for you and your families future. Then go right ahead.

I have more than just myself to think about in all this.

You don’t need to get aggressive or anything John, like I already wrote” if I get it wrong I haven’t said anything” and I didn’t know that Ireland was the most expensive country in the world when it comes to buying houses( learnt something again) . And for the record I have moved out at the age of 19 and have just bought a house myself, so I am not throwing away rent at all.

You’re right! No need for agro…

My apologies!!!

IRELAND is a black hole when it comes to money.
Everything is over-priced. And I mean “EVERYTHING”…!!!

I didn’t mean to get stroppy! It’s just that it can be very frustrating at times.
Because things are so expensive here, people just see that you’re building your own house and presume that you are loaded.

Well I’m sure as hell not loaded.
If we do manage to get by without me having to sell some of my collection, then it will be by the skin of our teeth.
A lot of things are going to have to be put on the back burner for the next few years, until we can catch up again.

And again…!!! Sorry for the outburst, Ronald.

I totally agree with you jobrok, but let me correct you: Belgium and especially the region where I live (around brussels)is also extremly expensive, so ireland is not the only place :). I have no idea how other young couples manage to buy a house around here. An old house in a row, with two bedrooms and a fairly descent kitchen (that means you can prepare food but not eat in it), without garage and a garden so small you can spit over it, costs at a minimum 125.000€. Ok if you go out to the country it gets a bit cheaper.

And don’t think of buying a building site, it will cost you 100.000€ for a mere 300 square meters.

Ok, I may be a bit frustrated because we’re looking around at the moment and we can’t find anything affordable. But still, how do young people manage it?

Well, were I live if you want a new appartment with two bedrooms, you pay 200.000 without expenses. If you want an old with two bedrooms you pay 150.000, so I suggest we all go and live in the Ardennen, like eddy plackaerts :)

A nice semi-detached will cost about EUR350,000 etc…

Ireland is a scandalous country.

Anyway. So we’re all agreed that the world is going down the toilet.
Thank God for good music to ease the pain…

Well I recently bought myself some land to buid a house on in Linter, it’s 30 kilometers from where my parents live but that’s the closest to home where the prices were affordable. I paid 80000 € all costs and taxes included (even a soil analysis) but right now I’m spent. I’m obliged to wait 3 or 4 years before I can breathe easy again and start building but I think that’s worth it. If I had to buy some land where I live now, I had to wait until I was 35 before I could start building or maybe I couldn’t even get a loan for it as prices are up to 120000 € over there without taxes and costs.

And to close off let me tell you this John, a house doesn’t have to be finished to live in, just make sure you have a kitchen, a bathroom and all the utilities you need to function. It doesn’t matter wether or not your house is painted on the inside or your garden is filled with nice plants and a good looking lawn. Just make sure you have all the comfort you need when you move in and save a bit of money to complete your house at your own pace.

That’s the plan…!!!

Kitchen, Bathroom, Stitting Room, 2 Bedrooms and Utility are the first to get done.

The rest can wait until we can afford it.

As for the garden…!!! Forget it. That will be left unfinished for God knows how long…

It’s head-wrecking stuff!!!!

well I just found out that we weren’t the only ones feeling lucky. I called this morning and the girl said:I will put down your phone number and call you back. That was it. So I waited and waited and finally descided that I couldn’t wait any longer. Called back and had a guy on the phone explaining that he had two candidate buyers, but already one of them couldn’t come up with the money and the other one was meeting him in half an hour to talk to the bank.

Why couldn’t that stupid, fucking, idiot of a woman this morning tell me this. Now I wasted an entire day of getting my hopes up. The only thing I can wish for now is that this buyer can’t come up with the money either. So let’s all hope he/she is poor enough :)

Damn I’m very angry at the moment. I feel like throwing stuf.

There was nothing wrong with the soil so it “just” cost me a measerly 1200 Euro’s but if it was polluted it would have been 1800 Euro’s per acre (if it’s the same as 1 Belgian are) to clean the soil depending on the degree of pollution so that would have set me back 22000 Euro’s but then it still would have been one of the cheaper pieces of land one can buy nowadays.

that’s pretty much, but if your unsure about the soil, it’s always better to let it analyse before.
well, was there s.th special standing there before (gasstation or a firm)…or did you just want to be 100% sure? or was it the price of the land, like: it’s “cheap” so there must be s.th wrong?

‘Tis, ‘tis. But it’s a good thing too. When you look at it, it’s one of the BIG things in life we people do. So it’s bound to give you a headache. It’s not just a decision about “shall I buy this rare collectors 7” or shall I leave it?” It’s the fucking works man. So don’t worry, you’ll be fine and by the time you move in you’ll be over the bloody moon together with your wife/girlfriend about the house. Try looking at the bright side of things.

I started me own business about a year ago. So I left a fairly well paid job to fulfill my dream. And I am not making enough money at the moment to pay my bills or the food, nevermind going out or being able to buy an album. And we have a big mortgage to pay for the house. And I have to admit, it DOES bother me, but I am happy with the decision and it keeps me on my toes. Despite the headache, I do love it and I am happy.
