Personally - I wouldn’t buy from PC world - they overprice, their aftercare service can be crap and they try to sell you loads of useless waranty cover plans… thats just a personal opinion… They also used to give you really shitty sound and video cards in the packages (often built in the motherboard)
Plus I don’t know whether this still applies - but if you buy a package computer like Compaq - they are really hard to upgrade.
Aldi have some really quality, cheap machines in at the moment - or you could have a look on http://www.ebuyer.com or http://www.komplett.co.uk and have a look at the desktop pc section.
Dont take my word as gospel as I dont know anyone who has used pc world in a couple of years now - but I would have a good look around before choosing.

Dell have some amazing offers @ the moment - Check this, Personally I wouldn’t buy from PC world. We use Dell’s at work and there excellent systems with a great build quality to match. This PC has free double memory and free delivery and they’ll be on site the nex day for any problems.
I make my living from PC’s, and have been using Dell for years, so I hope this helps :)
I agree. We had Dells at work that outlasted some newer machines which were bought to replace them.
I own a Dell now and love it. I’ve had no issues, and it’s quite the kickin’ machine. I’ve had it since Sept 03, and still have no issues running the latest high-end software.

Don’t buy from a chain would be my advice. Go to an independant shop. In my experience they know what they are talking about, and ask you what you want the system for and build it to suit your needs.

my advice: if you know s.o. who can build up a pc, then ask him nicely if he would do that for you. then you can buy all the things you need and also in good quality..and it’s even cheaper.
i did so and i paid about 40% less, then if i would have bought it complete in the shops…and it’s much better quality now.

Your money will always go further at an independant shop.
And remember - your pc is only as fast as your slowest part…

my advise is don’t buy anything on the high st (curry’s, dixons, pc world, time, tiny (computer store)). mail order companies and smaller stores give you better deals and better equipment.

Whilst Dell machines are ok when they work, do not expect any warranty backup. I use a Dell laptop at work, which is covered by an on site warranty. However, they will only send sombody ‘on site’ to replace a part once they have diagnosed the problem.
The net result of this is ‘we cannot determine whether the problem is hardware or software related so tough shit!’. You will be on hold for at least half an hour before sombody will talk to you, they will not return calls and genrally piss you about until you give up.
As they do not have retail outlets, you cannot go down there and drag the tosspots across the desk and stick your faulty goods where it deserves to be, or even create a big scene until the manager arrives.
This may be an isolated case, but I only know one other person to use Dell hand he has had the same experience.
I am now going for a lie down :(
