Out of all the Cure’s studio albums which is the best one to start with?I just own the greatest hits that has the acoustic bonus CD and their last self-titled album.

My favourite ones are Disintegration and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me.

But if you’re more in a depressive mood start with Pornography.

Pornography is by far the best. 17 Seconds, Head on the door, The Top and Disintegration come in second place.

‘The Cure’ is by far their worst album. Songs like ‘The Promise’, ‘Us or them’, ‘Lost’, … are just crap.

I’m a huge Cure fan btw. I have about 300 bootlegs and I’ve seen them live 6 times. My nickname comes from the song ‘Lament’ as some die hards must have noticed…

My favourite albums are Boys Don’t Cry, Faith, Pornography, The Top, Disintegration and Wish. I also like the live albums ‘Concert’ and ‘Show’ a lot.

in my opinion as a huge cure fan:

pornography
wish
bloodflowers
disintegration
the top
faith

the rest are a bit hit and miss. cure fans alway’s give me a bollocking for not immediately saying “disintegration” is the best. but it isn’t.

just stay away from “wild mood swings”. ouch.

I think The Head On The Door (released in 1985) is the best album to start with. It contains excellent pop songs (Inbetween Days, Close To Me), dark songs (Sinking, Kyoto Song) and weird, experimental songs (Six Different Ways, The Blood). It’s just ‘pure Cure’… :)

I like Pornography (fnar), but it’s hardly typical of The Cure - too depressing.

And Wish has got some right shite songs on it.

It has to be Disintegration for a newbie.

Talking about a grower, ‘Wild Mood Swings’ is a grower. I didn’t like the album for about three years :) Apart from some silly songs like ‘Round & Round & Round’, ‘Strange Attraction’ and ‘Numb’, it’s a good album. Nothing more, nothing less. But it could’ve been better if they had reduced the album to 10 songs instead of 14.

To Bad Karma. If you have some money left, I think you should buy 1985’s ‘The Head On The Door’ or maybe ‘Staring At The Sea - The Singles’ (released in 1986)

Good for you because with buying the Greatest Hits you now have Cut Here that isn’t on any other album but you’re missing out on Caterpillar and many other magnificent songs.

Buy the special editions of the first 3 albums because they’re worth their money.

I sort of wish i had got into them earlier, but as none of my friends at school wre into it (they liked happy hardcore and other shite *spits*) and my brother never was a fan so i sort of byepassed them.
