I’m going to be spending the next week checking the calendar to see if it’s saturday yet. ;)

tonights was great. cybermen AND daleks. I really didn’t think that the daleks would be back. next weeks is going to have a lot of answers i hope. What is the face of boe’s secret?… he better not step in at the last minute to bail them out like at the end of the last series with the bad wolf. at least after next week i’ll have my saturday nights back.

I’m pretty sure that the Face of Boe’s secret isn’t unveiled until next season. RTD said that when they knew they’d get a third series, he took something out of episode one, to save until then. So I’m guessing it’s whatever Boe was going to tell the Doctor.

Good point about the cop-out at the end of last season though. I hope this all has a decent resolution.

Unless you want to watch Torchwood, too. ;) Though I don’t actually know what day that’ll be on.

that bit on the website saying “she’s not rose tyler, not any more” was a paraphrased line from tonights episode. roses mum said it to her when she was saying all that stuff about how she’s changed and blah de blah. as to how she’ll change, given that there are cybermen involved, maybe she’ll end up as a cyberman somehow. in that case then she could always come back somehow (i.e the doctor in the 4th new series comes across the cybermen again and somehow works out that rose is one and does something to get her back). but i agree with what bad karma said, i don’t think she’ll be properly dead, and if she is, they’ll find a way to get her back somehow (if piper is still interested in doing it). RTD obviously knows how to make things emotional… as far as i can see there is absolutely no reason for jackie tyler to be in these last two episodes other than to watch her daughter inevitably come to some kind of “end”.

bearing in mind that a lot of the viewing audience of these new series are young, it’ll be strange to see how the next series works given that the two original main actors (ecclestone and piper) will have gone.

still, i think tennant is the far superior doctor. ecclestone got on my nerves a bit with his over acting all the time. and he had big ears.

did anyone notice the eastenders theme running through this weeks episode?

one of the lab techs was played by one of the ferrera sons from eastenders

the torchwood woman, whose character name i can’t recall, was played by tracy ann ooberman (who was chrissie in eastenders)

there was a clip whereby they were zooming in on the computer as to the location of the TARDIS that vaguely looked liked the opening credits of eastenders

barbara windsor did a cameo at the beginning in the queen vic talking to dirty den as one of the ghosts.

and here’s the crux point…

in the “real” eastenders, dirty den was killed in the queen vic by chrissie wicks… who was played by tracy ann ooberman… who was in this weeks episode as whatsername from torchwood!

Haha, yeah, I did notice that. Made it a weird experience. (When you said ‘the Eastenders theme’, for a moment I thought you meant that the music was playing, too! :D:o)
In that terrible Children in Need special years ago, the Doctor went to Albert Square. Now _that’s_ fucked up.

As for the quote on the website, I did think of the conversation with her mum, but I wasn’t sure if those words were actually spoken(?). If it’s only paraphrased, then I’d have guessed the line would come up properly later on.
The Doctor’s had loads of comapanions, and a few have died, but none of them have ever come back from the dead (unless you count the Paul McGann movie). Doesn’t mean it can’t happen now, of course.

I think the ‘death’ is going to be more symbolic than anything, a la the conversation with her mum. ‘She’s not Rose Tyler anymore.’ Have you heard the other rumour about what happens to her? It’s really implausible, (but then I didn’t believe the Daleks would be in this episode either), and might be a spoiler if it’s true.

Having watched the repeat, it turns out it wasn’t paraphrased, it was a direct quote. *strokes chin* interesting…

well it’s all over now. i thought it was a good way to end the series. very very emotional, especially at the end. but then again, i am a sissy.

i liked the idea of the genesis ark being a prison ship. i was wondering what the hell was going to be in there and then when tennant said the line about “time lord technology… it’s bigger on the inside” it became evidently clear that it was going to be full of daleks.

how come tracy ann oobermans character was fighting against the cybermen even when she was turned into one?

and please please don’t tell me that that was ACTUALLY catherine tate at the end.

right, well see you at christmas then.

Yeah, that was great. Not such a copout resolution as it was at the end of last season, either. Which was nice.
The ‘It’s bigger on the inside’ comment was a real ‘ah!’ moment.
epic storyline. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle the invasion in Torchwood, come to think of it. It seems the days of ‘secret’ invasions are well and truly over.

I thought it was cool that The Torchwood leader carried on fighting against the Cybermen even after being converted. It did make sense, since cyberconversion is like brainwashing, and some people have overcome it in the past. She seemed to recognise the cybermen, finally, and she was clearly psyching herself up to remember her duty as she walked in to be converted. Why she still had her own voice, though, I don’t know…

It was actually Catherine Tate. :/

Oh, and I loved the way the Daleks were basically taking the piss out of the Cybermen, too. :D The black Dalek survived, too, which was cool.

In the end I did actually feel sorry for Rose, so that’s the episode’s job done, I guess.

yeah, that was good actually… “you are only superior in that you are better at dying” or something like that :)

and the other bit was something like:

cyberman “you believe you can defeat the cybermen army with 4 daleks?”
dalek “we could defeat you with one”… classic stuff. :)

Yeah, I think that was it. And ‘This is not war; this is pest control.’

Though, for balance, it was also kind of funny when the Dalek identified itself first. Made me think of that episode of Dad’s Army: ‘You, what is your name?’
‘Don’t tell him, Pike.’

And then the follow up to that, where Rose remarks that the Daleks aren’t bothered by a planet full of Cybermen, but with the Doctor here, they’re scared.
Again:

I thought it was a brilliant episode apart from the last ten seconds(i hate Catherine Tate i don’t find her funny at all so i’m not really that bothered about the next Christmas special). Now that Rose is in the alternate universe i guess there’ll be lots of spin off novels with her working at Torchwood. All the actors put in really good performances one of the best Doctor Who’s ever.I noticed one of the Daleks escaped,i wonder if all the Cybermen were sucked in as well because not all of them were from the alternate universe what happened to the one’s like Tracy Ann Ooberman’s character that are from Rose’s earth?

I have never seen a single episode of the new Doctor Who, since it came back, and I saw the last half of this one and thought they’d done a fairly good job. Still…flying daleks?! NO!!!!

Right, I’m not a die hard fan, but I enjoyed the series. However, I thought the episode with Peter Kaye was bloody AWFUL. What a wasted talant Marc Warren was. I’m sure Russell T Davies just wrote that so that ‘all he can do is act as himself’ can be in it.

Apart from a few other faults, I enjoyed it. Roll on the Christmas episode.

Fatboy: The full story for Love and Monsters goes:
Blue Peter runs a competition to create a monster. Some eight year old wins with the Absorbaloff. Peter Kay writes to RTD and says, ‘I like Doctor Who, can I be in it?’ RTD says ‘sure, ok, why not, it’s not as if I have a whole nation of real actors queuing at the door for their chance. You can be the fan in this episode coming up.’ Mr Kay replies: ‘Fuck that. I want to be a monster.’ RTD says ‘ok, you can be this Absorbaloff thing.’ The end.
So you see, it was all very well thought out, and done for the best of artistic reasons. ;) Still, I did actually quite enjoy that episode (except for the end… )

Just read the first paragraph of this, it made me laugh:

Yeah, that’s a good point. Unlike the escaping Dalek, I’m not sure if it was a plot ole, or deliberate way of leaving it open for the Cybermen to come back. Still don’t know why we can’t just have ‘our’ Cybermen, though.

Dennis: Flying Daleks: Yes! Would have been nice to see some Dalek Hoverbouts, though (those one-Dalek miniature spacecraft/platforms) They’re cool.

Yeah, I saw them. I liked the first episode quite a lot, but thought the second one seemed a tad bit weak.

Having said that, I ended up watching them again on wednesday, and it was worth the second look.

I’ll definitely carry on watching it, even if it does seem a bit derivative at the moment(?)

I’ll probably be watching it on wednesdays from now on, though.
