Yeah the start of A Secet Society does sound a lot like She’s Lost Control. This EP will be the only new material from them until the next album which probably won’t be out until 07 or something.I’d love it they made a real return to form and had a comeback like Morrissey just did.But i’m afraid they will just drift more and more into obscurity with another mediocre album. The next album really is their last chance(mind you after Know Your Enemy everyone said Lifeblood was their make or break time),It has to be very good!

How fucking surreal is their TOTP appearance? :p What makes it even weirder is Vic and Bob appearing during it :)

Yeah, James talks about the balaclava/IRA complaints in the DVD interview.

On a related note, it’s the first time I’ve heard the song “Judge Yrself”. I think it’s ace, anyone know when it was recorded?

Judge Yr’self is a brilliant song it’s the last song they did with Richey and you can find it on Lipstick Traces it’s a two CD compilation of B-sides/rarities/cover versions/unreleased tracks. It’s worth getting too for 4 Ever Delayed.

anyway, the songs themselves are better than most of the stuff on lifeblood.especially firefight shines, so the bad quality bootleg didn’t fool me.great :)

Yeah it did really badly haha it only managed two weeks in the top 75 albums,it debuted at 13 and then on it’s second week it fell to 52 and then into oblivion on it’s third week.As you know i’m not thay overly fond of the album there is some good stuff on it but the rest of it i find sooooo bland but Lifeblood’s poor performance has surprised me.I thought this was the kind of album that would appeal to casual mainstream music buyers(even Q slagged it off) but i suppose the choice of singles didn’t help and all the lacklustre performances the Manics turned in on Jools Holland and every other music show they were on when Nixion was released.I like lots of bands whose albums will never chart in the top 75 but when you’re in a fairly successful pop/rock band like the Manics and on a major label it’s bad.

There’s a rumour going around the Forever Delayed forum that James Dean Bradfield is making a solo album. Some fans met Martin Hall and he told them, there’s been nothing official confirmed so the story might turn out to be bollocks but i hope it’s true.I think Nicky Wire’s lyrics on the last couple of albums have been really shite so i doubt James could do any worse and he still has one of the best voices in rock so it should be good or at least better than the last two or three Manics albums.

i heard something about that the other day actually. i’d be interested to hear it if it’s true. i agree totally with what you said there about wire’s lyrics, they truly have been awful on the last few albums. but then again james writes the music and that was also pretty piss poor on those albums too. i think it’d be a lot more stripped down than any manics stuff though. i can’t imagine jamesy dean bradfield playing songs with different musicians. i remember a few years back on jools hollands new years program james did a version of “out of time” with some other session musicians and it just looked so, so wrong. on the “god save..” ep didn’t james actually write “firefight”? i really like that one. however good or bad it is if he does a solo album it really can’t be any worse than “lifeblood”. then again i remember saying prior to “lifeblood”s release, “oh well it can’t be any worse than “know your enemy”. and i was wrong there too.

Yeah James wrote Firefight which is an alright song and he also wrote Ocean Spray which i thought was the best song on Know Your Enemy.
Now that i think about it most Manics albums are almost solo albums anyway,in the early days James played all Nicky’s and Richey’s guitar parts on Generation Terrorists.
I read in a couple of interviews Sean and Nicky said The Love Of Richard Nixion was Sony’s choice for first single off Lifeblood and they weren’t allowed to pick and they didn’t really care anymore.
I’m looking forward to James solo album a hell of a lot more than the next Manics album.

I’d be curious about a solo album, although to be honest, the lyrics aren’t anything I really care about with later-era Manics (it’s such a stale criticism now) and I’m not sure how well James’ newer songwriting would fit a more stripped down sound. I love Lifeblood, but the songs really fitted the electronic sound… I can’t imagine acoustic versions working.
I wonder what happened to the rumour that the band were ready to start another record and make it even more electronic…

Well what happened was Sony wouldn’t even put pay for the God Save The Manics EP (the Manics paid for it themselves)nevermind a new album.Given the reaction Lifeblood got(it’s currently £2.99 in FOPP) i’d be surprised if they carried on in more electronic direction in one interview Nicky said the new album might sound more like A Secret Society.Whichever musical direction they go in i think this next album will be the last they release on Sony i really don’t see them making a comeback anytime soon.

I love the manics and always will, but to be honest it’s the early stuff i mainly love. After the release of Everything must go they never seemed the same, maybe thats due to the fact that after EMG it was only nicky doing the lyrics, they never seemed to get back on track. Also nicky wires ranting and the whole glastonbury thing didnt help matters either. That said, i was probably one of the few who actually like Know your enemy, especially the track baby elian, though i dont think anyting can better The Holy Bible. Aside from infernal love, one of my fav albums of all time.
