Given the reaction Lifeblood got(it’s currently £2.99 in FOPP) i’d be surprised if they carried on in more electronic direction
I’d be upset if they let a public reaction change the direction of their music, to be honest.

Well what happened was Sony wouldn’t even put pay for the God Save The Manics EP (the Manics paid for it themselves)nevermind a new album…
but really, for me anyway, that’s a good thing. the last manics gig i went to was on the past/present/future tour and it was one of the best manics gigs i’d seen for well over 5 years. i don’t think they’re under any illusions now about being a huge band. they’ve done their arena tours (admittedly with their weakest albums, of which i was a willing attendee) but i think james needs to take a lot more control over the band. the holy bible is always seen as richeys album but the music was all done by james. i know they’re getting old now but… i hated lifeblood and most of know your enemy but if they just throw out another masses against the classes then i’ll be happy. i don’t expect another holy bible (it’s impossible really) but for them to carry on as they are would be the worst kind of death for a band.
but they are still one of the best live bands ever.

They’ve already let public reaction influence their music, the reasction from fans to This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours led to Masses Against The Classes(probably their last really brilliant moment and it would have been great if they”d split up when it was number one) and Know Your Enemy.

Exactly: that spawned Know Your Enemy.
I prefer the band when they’re doing what they want to do (Lifeblood, for example), rather than doing what they think they should do.

RADIOHEAD, GORILLAZ and RAZORLIGHT are amongst the bands who will contribute to a new album being put together in aid of WAR CHILD.
‘Help: A Day in the Life’ will mark the 10th anniversary of the Help album in 1995.
The project aims to compile the best bands of this generation and give them one day to record a new piece of music, which War Child will make available on http://www.warchildmusic.com on September 9. A CD release will follow a few weeks later.
Other bands already confirmed include The Zutons, Manic Street Preachers, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, The Coral, Elbow and Maximo Park.
War Child boss Mark Waddington said: As a music fan, I know what the original Help album meant and as the present CEO of War Child I know what it achieved. It was my intention that any new album we made in 2005 should match up to the feats of the past. Thats why we have set ourselves the challenge of remaking history and releasing the fastest album ever
again! Its a tall order but we feel with the support of amazing artists we can make it happen and help a new generation of children affected by war.
War Child was launched in 1993 as a response to the affect of the Balkans conflict on children. In 1995, 20 of the UKs bands and artists went into studios across Europe to each produce a track for Help, the fastest-ever number one album in British music history.

Another band returning ten years on are the Manic Street Preachers, whose bass player Nicky Wire (a man never short of words or opinions) confirmed their contribution, commenting,
The track we are going to record for the new Help album is a brand new song, which we wrote after being asked to take part. The track is called ‘Leviathan’ and it is the punkiest thing we have done in years. We’ve been proud to feature on three of War Childs albums.
So much for a two year break, this new song might just be a one-off punk type song like Masses Against The Classes and it’s a more welcome thought than most of the MOR dirge thats on Lifeblood but i’m more interested in hearing the new Radiohead,Coral,Bloc Party and Elbow songs.
