Half Way Up The Stairs

Anyone know what that little opening bit Andy sings prior to Unbeliever from the MTV Brixton Academy show?

Half way up the stairs there’s a stair where I sit
There isn’t any other stair quite like it
it’s not at the bottom
it’s not at the top
so this is the step where I always stop

halfway up the stairs
is it up or is it down
it isn’t in the nursury
it isn’t in the town

And all sorts of funny thoughts
go racin’ round my head
it isn’t really anywhere

it’s somewhere else instead.

I did that from memory because ever since I heard it I can’t get it out of my @$#@$@#$ head.

Is it a nursury rhyme..a song lyric?

It’s a poem by AA Milne, the same author who wrote the Winnie the Pooh stories and it goes like this:

Halfway down the stairs
Is a stair

Halfway up the stairs

Isaw it once on tv being cited by Robin, Kermit the frog’s nephew: awesome!

That’s because it was raining. I remember hearing it when Radio 1 did a live broadcast. They won’t do that now, would they?

I tried to Google it but all I found was some news article where bunch of school kids were singing it in some event.

Of course it rained - why else would he sing it? :P Andy did it also during one of the shows at the Bizarre festival I think.

The substitute/lost highway intro to Trigger Inside which is found on the dead laughing bootleg is also wonderful (that’s however not voice only)
