Irish Fans

Howdy all,

The Therapy? machine is an international one, but is there many fans in Ireland??

It seems that the level of support in Europe is strong always, and that Ireland is letting the side down.

Sadly! I have to agree with Grinder…!!!

The band know what side their bread is buttered on.
Europe has always been better to T? than here in Ireland.

Maybe if the played here a bit more.
And I don’t just mean the obligatory Dublin gig!!!

They make an appearance in Cork about every 5 or 6 years, which is kinda miserable.

When I was in college in Limerick, they played there, many moons ago.

There are some great venues around Ireland, outside of the Dublin area.

Yeah, that Limerick gig was on the Semi Detached tour in 1998. They also played Cork that year, and have only played there once since (2004).

I’m from Clonmel, by the way.

As regards Irish music fans; very fickle, usually go along with what the US and UK media tells them to.

There certainly is a major element of music snobbery in Ireland…

The Dublin scene is very introverted, with everyone living in each others pockets! A lot of rich boys dressing poor!

We need a new Whipping Boy or Therapy? to come and tear a hole in the scene!

Am I crazy or did Andy Cairns have an indie label on the go at one stage, think perhaps it was Mexican Pets they signed?

I could be very wrong here, just a memory from a No Disco episode.

Yeah Joyrider supported Therapy a couple of times.

They were a band on the brink of being huge at the time. There was this band from NI called Scheer, their album Infliction was brilliant, a hard rock band with a female singer…very cool.

I’m from NI county Tyrone where T? fans are very thin on the ground.I think part of the problem T? very rarely tour this side of the irish sea + with the lack of airplay and videos on TV and music magazines filled with shite like Good Charlotte it kind of makes T? almost seem invisible.
Andy did have an indie label at one stage i think saw that episode of No Disco as well.
I remember Scheer they released one album and recorded another but it wasn’t released until a few years after they had split up..

The Dublin scene now is very singer-songwriter with the likes of Paddy Casey doing well. It’s not my bag at all really. It’s always been very closed off though.
I’m surprised T? don’t play more gigs on the west of Ireland. Cork, Limerick and Galway all seem to have decent venues. It’s supply and demand I guess, but if they play Dublin on the first half of the tour and the west of Ireland on the second half, I’m sure that’d work. But the lads aren’t eejits, I’m sure thay’ve looked into getting these gigs.

Guess thats what having airwaves filled wiht crap does to the world :(

When mentioning T? here a lot of people also give me the ’ do they still exist?? ‘.

Might have a chat with a mate of mine who’s organising gigs professionally here and happens to be a good mate of Andy’s as well. Hopefully there’s a way they can do some more gigs in Ireland and save me the extra air miles.

The Dublin gig at the Ambassador in December 2004 was disappointing in terms of numbers - the crowd wasn’t that big. Of course, the fact that it was a Wednesday and just before Christmas might have contributed to the poor showing.

I, however, went mental in the pit! :D

i thought there was a good crowd there. of course for Tokyo Dragons and Winnebago Deal there were hardly many watching, but the crowd picked up for Therapy, there were definately more there than i expected. There wasnt great advertising for it anyway was there? There never are that many people in the Ambassador (at least all the gigs ive been to there)

Think everytime i’ve been in the ambassador its been sold out (Megadeth, Motorhead, Even T? on the Shameless tour 8th December aswell!)
What pissed me off at the Dublin gig is that I was talkin to this lad who was givin out about the band’s support over here and didn’t know they’d released an album since Shameless…
As everyones been saying the lack of airplay over here doesn’t seem to do T? any favours. The average Irish music fan seems to change their favorite band with the charts anyway, lets see how many people are still listening to Kaiser Chief, the Killers or Kasabian in 2 years time.

Incidently does anyone happen to have a copy of the set list from the Irish Shameless gig, or the Ozzfest one?
Cheers

I hate to be the negative one in the thread but i don’t think T? have ever been that popular north or south,i’d say that fifty per cent are more likely to own an Oasis album rather than Troublegum.
