For the next album Trent is going to have to totally rethink his lyrics because the music is good but there’s only so many ‘i’m fucked up’ type songs he can write.

To be fair to Pearl Jam - they didnt follow the angst path, the only albums with those kinda songs were the first two. But then again I I am gonna stick up for em cause I love Pearl Jam almost as much as Nine Inch Nails…

Plus the stuff that Trent sings about is quite different to the stuff that someone like Jon Davis from Korn crapps on about (Daddy smacked me and I was bullied at school)

I actually think Trent has written a lot of great lyrics on previous albums.

Ok, one band that I heard the other day that I liked was Bullet For My Valentine. I just got the EP and they might actually have released something I *shock, horror* like

with teeth is growing on me a lot actually. perhap’s it’s because i’m rather drunk now but even “you know what you are” and “the hand that feeds” are starting to sound good. and i hate that song, alledgeldly, well i do, or maybe i did. perhaps. the best tracks though must be “all the love in the world”, “with teeth”, “love is not enough” and “only”.
send your complaints…

ALBUM REVIEW: Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth (Universal/Island)
With the current music scene defined by overnight successes and acts whose
appeal lasts five minutes, it’s reassuring to see that after a six year
absence, Nine Inch Nails can once again cement their position as one of the
most interesting and cutting edge bands around. It’s all too easy to be
forgotten when you release albums every five years, but such has been the
cultural impact of Trent Reznor’s collective over the last fifteen years or
so, they’re always going to be discussed heavily with every new release. And
what’s more, Nine Inch Nails are currently riding an unexpected wave of
commercial success in the UK. Lead-off single ‘The Hand That Feeds’ recently
became Nine Inch Nails’ first top ten single, and ‘With Teeth’ has just
entered the album charts at number three. The aforementioned single was a
blistering return to form, driven by some frenetic percussion and moody
synths, and Trent’s familiar lyrical territory of the simultaneous pain and
pleasure of suffering. If ever this record had a ‘Closer’ or a ‘Head Like A
Hole’, it’s this track. As much as ‘With Teeth’ develops the industrial path
Reznor has walked throughout his career, there are plenty of interesting
sidesteps that grab your attention. Whilst the album’s second track ‘You
Know What You Are?’, an expletive-heavy, angry, piece of noise is pure Nine
Inch Nails, it’s predecessor, ‘All The Love In The World’ is completely
different, and indicates that Reznor has been keeping his eyes and ears
firmly on the music scene in his absence. Guided by a minimal
Timbaland-esque, glitch beat, the track uses classical piano in the
background to create an intriguing contrast of sounds, but then leads into a
gospel inspired chant of the chorus. Reznor has always retained a sense of
balancing accessibility and innovation; the likes of ‘Only’ (if you can get
past the terrible lyrics) and ‘Every Day Is Exactly The Same’ are potential
singles, and sound a million miles away from ‘Beside You In Time’. After the
muted critical reception for ‘Fragile’, the previous Nine Inch Nails album,
‘With Teeth’ should re-establish their reputation, and even if it doesn’t
quite reach the dizzy heights of their classic ‘The Downward Spiral’, it’s a
fine record in its own right. Don’t expect Nine Inch Nails to surface again
until 2010 though. KW

Totally. When I saw NIN at the Astoria, Trent played “Hurt” by himself only playing keyboards. It was great.
We might be getting off track, but do you guys prefer the NIN or Johnny Cash version “Hurt”? I think the NIN version is far superior, although maybe if Cash had recorded it back in the 1960s his version would be better.
