did i miss something

#

Started by McKekS

i had my first possibility to see T? live in april 2004 when they were back to three memebrs. So i never had a cance to hear how do the sound live with 2 guitars.

i assume here’re lots of people who saw them performing with and without second guitarist, so maybe they can satisfy my curiosity:

- did they sound different with 4th member?
- did i miss a lot, not seeing them before martin left?

P.S. please understand correctly my post: i’m not complaining or regreting any changies, just wondering did it effect the live gigs of T?. :)

Tough question. You might want to trawl through the old threads about Martin and the concequent gigs.

When I went to see them for the 1st time without Martin I was quite disappointed and I thought they sounded a little empty.

But I’ve seen them 2 or 3 times since and I can’t complain now. They are very tight and very loud again. I do miss the chello a bit though…

I think they sounded better without him. Sad, but true. I think I’m the only person here who doesn’t miss the cellos at all.

No, I’m a yaysayer (is that even a word?) in this case. Was the change in lineup for the better? In my opinion, yay!

the cellos were good, but i wouldnt say vital, they kinda lost their sound abit when they became a 4 peice and now there back to 3 they sound brilliant.

Full agreement - Yaysay to you Joe :D

I didnt notice it until they stripped down to a 3 piece but the sound is less cluttered - they have a punkier edge now. No disrespect to Martin… but I prefer the 3 piece.

Daryl and Martin sittin’ in a tree…

I think all parties involved wanted to move on, so I’m sure he’d agree. He’s playing with his wife now (shut it) so I’m sure he’s happy.

I’ve only heard a bootleg of them as a 3 piece, and I have to say they sounded great. I’ve got a bunch of clips of them as a four piece (plus the DVD and the show on FAB Channel.com which is still there) and I have to say they play with more intensity as a 3 piece.

If you don’t have the DVD and want to see them with Martin, head over to http://www.fabchannel.com/ and watch their Paradiso gig. Great set but Andy’s voice was a bit trashed, but he soldiered through it. There’s some great interplay with the crowd.

I’ve only ever seen them live without MArtin (and once without Neil as well). Anybody notice that on Scobophobia, Martin’s guitar is silent for virtually the whole gig? I geuss they cut it out during the mixing or something… but why?

I think they sound great and put on a fantastic show (in comparison to other bands that I’ve seen) with just one guitar.

I guess I grew up with them being a three piece and loved them that way when martin entered the picture it was good to have a bit of a change but they did lose a bit of focus on some of there albums with him on (baring SPYF). So i don’t miss him live i just hope they don’t stop playing some of the songs from that period that he played cello on, like ten year plan for example.

Not only his voice was trashed, I think the whole man was ‘a little’ beside himself, at least the drugs he took before seemed to be ok…anyway, entertaining show with one of the best setlists so far.

just as I was showering and listend to a bootleg I remembered that not only andy himself was fucked, so was one of his guitars.

the webcast is worth watching just to see them play ‘church of noise’. andys guitar seems to be fixed but he doesn’t play one single note but the solo.

classic stuff!!
