Sin City

Oh my God does this film look like it’s going to rock.

I’m salivating like Seb at a brothel at the mere thought of watching this. I’m a huge fan of the comic books and this one looks like it’s going to rock my fucking face off.

Everything is just so right. The screenshots I’ve seen show they’ve used Miller’s storyboards and pretty much copied it page for page, as it should be.

The CGI is not overly and clumsily done like George Lucas.

The women look hot and the guys look like the hard-done-by tough guys they should. Mickey Rourke pretty much IS Marv.

If I ever had a reason to postpone my suicide, this is it.

I’m off to see it later this week. Is it tomorrow night? Or was it Friday, who knows. I’ll ask my secretary.

It really sucks you guys get these movies so late(it came out April 1 here). If you like the comix, you’re gonna SHIT over the film, Rodriguiz & Miller did an awesome job of bringing them to life. All the actors brought the characters to life just beutifally. There are reports that a SIN CITY 2 may already be filming, with Dwights origin story A DAME TO KILL FOR in this collection.

True man, you guys have had it since April 1st if I’m not mistaken. Lucky :) I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about it from everyone that’s seen it. A Dame To Kill for is actually the only Sin City graphic novel I don’t have, as I’ve never been able to track down a copy  Will have to get on that one sharp-ish.

Edit: just saw your mention of April 1st. D’oh.

But if I ever do kill a hooker I hope the cops don’t find this board. Or else I’m toast.

It is indeed a very good movie. I saw it a couple of weeks ago. A mate of mine downloaded it  and we watched it in work. Mickey Rourke is particularly good.

Mickey Rourke is awesome in it though. Good action, very violent and great dialogue. Seb like.

I found that although I loved the movie and how it stuck to the comic books faithfully, it seemed to drag on.

My solution when it comes out on dvd- I’m going to watch it in chapters. That should help!

Okay, here are a few thoughts:

- Using three storylines (the three different books) and jumping back and forth is quite a good idea. It’s an idea taken from Pulp Fiction, but good nonetheless.

- The casting for this was near-perfect. I wasn’t too sure about Brittany Murphy’s acting (“You damned fool, you damned fool” was a bit over-dramatic) but a stellar cast otherwise.

- The women looked hot, the guys looked cool and the violence was gratuitous (sp?).

This is basically a comic book brought to life without any bullshit commercialisation put in to ruin the experience for the fanboys. Anyone who’s a hardcore fan of the books cannot be disappointed or else they’re just elitist ingrates. FACT!

It´s not taken from pulp fiction. It´s how the comics go.
Grrrr…hate Tarentino.
And yes. I am an elitist ingrate…jejeje

No, it IS taken from Pulp Fiction. The comics were released separately, so you did get each story on its own all the way through. Rodriguez is going to include the possibility of seeing each story separately on the Special Edition DVD.

But there are bits of each comic in all the other comics (i.e. they interlap). So no. It is not taken from pulp fiction. And there are movies before pulp fiction that did the overlaping storylines. Mostly independent forigen movies…

When Marv is sitting in the saloon in ‘That Yellow Bastard’ in the comic book, that is STILL ‘That Yellow Bastard’. When reading ‘That Yellow Bastard’, after Hartigan gets shot, you don’t see Marv and Goldie making love on the next page, do you? No. Because that’s a different story. So when that happened in the film, that was Rodriguez and Miller’s adaptation.

I’m sure there were films that did that, although I haven’t seen any that did. The point is, would this film have done it if Pulp Fiction hadn’t done it? There’s less of a probability of it doing so.

To me it´s just sin city. Not A Hard goodbye, a yellow bastard, a dame to kill for etc… They are all one to me…
I supose it´s just a different point of view…
And may I point out that I did say I was an elitist ingrate… :p

Why didn’t you like it? I don’t see how it could have been done better. The only difference between this and the comics is what I’ve pointed out, and since you already said you consider it all to be one story…
