Smashing Pumpkins to reform

#

Started by Bad Karma

BILLY CORGAN has said he wants to reform SMASHING PUMPKINS.

The singer, who has completed work on his debut solo album ’TheFutureEmbrace’ has taken out a full page advert in the Chicago Tribune newspaper where he said “his heart” remains with his old band.

He wrote: “When I played the final Smashing Pumpkins show on the night of December 2, 2000, I walked off the stage believing that I was forever leaving a piece of my life behind. I naively tried to start a new band, but found that my heart wasn’t in it. I moved away to pursue a love that I once had but got lost. SO I moved back home to heal what was broken in me, and to my surprise I found what I was looking or. I found that my heart is in Chicago, and that my heart is in the Smashing Pumpkins.

”For a year now I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep. But now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again.”

Smashing Pumpkins split in 2000 after the release of their final album ‘Machina’. Following the split Corgan formed Zwan, who split after one record.

I always figured Corgan would reform the Pumpkins after the awful Zwan, even Billy doesn’t like the album in an interview he said “people say they like the Zwan record?Hey,great but in my eyes,it’s like fucking bile.”
His solo album TheFutureEmbrace is out this week and it’s a lot better than Zwan but nowhere near as good as the Pumpkins best moments. It has an electro pop New Orderish sound to it and sounds a little like Adore era Pumpkins.

I smell money. Large piles of unmarked bills. I was quite happy to see the pumpkins finish up on a almost high. Well when I say ‘high’ I mean mediocre…

Well, what I’ve heard of his solo album so far, it’s a pile of rubbish.

So he seems to need something else to boost his ego.

i’m not sure that smashing pumpkins can do an album like ‘mellon collie and the infinite sadness’ or ‘siamese dreams’ again. or writing a song like ‘1979’. they have lost their muse in the last album. at that time i thought finishing smashing pumpkins is not a bad idea.
however, it is also certain that there are a few people in the world who can write brilliant lyrics and songs just as Andy Cairns does and Billy Corgan did in the past. i see no alternatives for them today. so maybe billy will make an explosion with what he has experienced after smashing pumpkins.

Yeah the whole thing reeks of being a publicity stunt to promote his solo album which is out this week,a Smashing Pumpkins to reform story will grab peoples attention a lot more than his solo album will.If he wants to reform the band then why doesn’t he just pick up the phone and chat to the rest of the band?I guess he wants the attention,i think Jimmy would be up for a reunion because he played in Zwan and on one song on TheFutureEmbrace,i’m not sure about James Iha there’s a lot of bad blood between him and Corgan but with APC on hiatus again who knows.I don’t think Darcy will be back because she left before Machina came out and she didn’t even turn up for the last Smashing Pumpkins gig even though she was invited, not much has been heard about her except rumours of plastic surgery and drug oblivion.I much prefer Melissa Auf Der anyway, she can play for a start.
The Pumpkins would be a good live draw and they would make loads from a reunion tour.
You’re right the Pumpkins didn’t end on a high,Corgan lost the plot with Machina a convoluted concept album although the Machina 2 internet only album was better.

i don’t like billy corgan at all (he just seems a bit, erm, slimy somehow. and he looks like uncle fester) but i wouldn’t mind seeing the pumpkins live as i never have done before. as for them putting out new music i’m pretty sure it would be a bit naff, their time has past really. although having said that i actually like everything they’ve done including machina (never got round to listening to the machina 2 thing though).

but zwan, yes they were utter utter shite.
