Started by not that kind of guy (Richard)

bbc3 have just reported that every british students favourite and also worst gameshow presenter has passed away today. famed for being the first ever face on channel four with his show “countdown”.

i always preferred the numbers round myself. but although i shaln’t shed a tear, my weekday afternoons at work on my tea break will always be different now.

What about that infamous moment when both contestants came up with the word “wankers” from Carol’s assorted letters, with the second contestant smilingly declaring when asked what word he got “a pair of wankers, Richard”. Amazingly they showed it and, needless to say, C4 recieved a record number of complaints!

Sad to see him go, I hope they dont replace him for Countdown, i hope it just ends. I liked that game, it was simple and interactive, not groundbreaking but good in its own way. and it gave me a few laughs as well.

They could probably do what Have I Got News For You did after Angus Deayton got fired and have a different presenter for each show, but they’d never be able to replace him.

I understand that’s what they did as soon as he was taken ill, maybe they’ll carry on.

I am so shocked that I really don’t know what to say except that British daytime tv will never be the same again. When I lived in England, I was unfortunate enough to be ill for long periods of time and Countdown saved me from ultimate braindeath. Along with Supermarket Sweep, of course ;) But seriously tho, Richard was and is a legend and he will be missed.
