Sorry I can’t agree that he was one of the best… on record he always sounded great and I’m sure in the early years his voice and range was as good as it was live too. But when i saw them back in 93 and any live stuff i have heard because of the drugs or whatever he really wasn’t that good! The Unplugged album i love but he struggles, if he had stayed clean then i would happily say otherwise as i’m sure he could have kept his voice. Its sad?
Duvall does the layne stuff well live but has a bigger range, it has change since he joined as i hated his voice when they played download a bit back but he seems to have fitted in with Jerrys voice.
As long as the album is good I’m not too worried about them reforming with a new singer.:).

If every song they did was as good as Would?, they’d be my favourite band in the whole world.

Nah i agree in that clip he is on form i do like him as a vocalist, I love AIC and couldn’t really without liking his voice… its just a shame that a bit like Phil from Pantera it got worse through abuse (obviously Phil is back on form these days). Anyway its all personal taste :)

I really don’t know about him getting worse. All I know is that on the AIC ad Mad Season albums I got at home he’s the most chilling, great singer, I’ve ever heard.

yeah he definitly got worse
the last songs he sang with them “get born again” and “died” in 1998 he wasnt 100%, he lost a few teeth too
he sang a cover of “another brick in the wall” with side project “class of 99”, they used old alice in chains videoclips of him in the music vid for it cos he was so ill

Actually there are a few people on youTube who have had a go at it. James Hetfield sings it with them in one clip.

His voice is similar to Laynes in that it still sounds like AIC, but different enough so it doesn’t sound like he’s ripping him off - which is quite an achievement as its a pretty fine line

cant wait for the new album, even though it will never be seen in the same light as the previous ones as they are all classics

Well realistically - what were the chances of this being any good?
I’d say slim to fuck all - but they seem to be pulling it off against all odds.
Which is nice - Its one of those times where it is nice to be wrong about something!

Can you imagine if Krist Novoselic and and Dave Grohl just rolled up one day with some skinny dude with an afro and said “Hey kids, we’re Nirvana!” they’d get away with it?
Still - the AIC stuff is sounding good and I’m really looking forward to the Album

dunno… maybe aic just weren’t meant to be together past their 30s. but anyway, the songs okay, so…
