Infernal Love = best album ever

#

Started by Michael A (Michael Ehh?)

There are a lot of great singers out there, there are a lot of great writers out there, there are a lot of great bands out there and there are a lot of great albums out there but seldom do all of those things come together like they do on Infernal Love. The raw emotion Andy was able to force out of himself and into his vocals and guitar is beyond belief. You feel every lyric, every chord. It all has weight and meaning. Fyfe’s drums and Michael’s bass are flawless and coupled with Andy’s guitar and vocals the whole is far greater than the sum of it’s parts. I’ve loved everything T? has done, but Infernal Love just hits me like a 20 ton sledge.

it’s true too in all T? career, this one is really exceptionnal. I think it’s apart of the others.

Three of these songs slaps me everytime,it’s ‘Moment of clarity’, ‘Me vs You’ and ‘Bowels of love’-have you fell how Andy sings on it?-

Misery is my favorite track on IL. I’ve been through my share of messy break-ups and “Fuck you waste my time” really sums it all up for me, and Andy’s knife like delivery of said line is the icing on the cake.

Me vs. You is a killer track. You can really feel that song in your bones. The bitterness, the anger, it all comes pouring out of the speakers.

30 seconds is also a great track, perfect ending salvo. You go through all the emotions of the previous 10 tracks and then 30 seconds shows up and remorselessly bashes your head against the curb. You couldn’t have a better end track for that disc.

There’s not one weak link on that entire album, and you don’t see albums like that very often.

This album is really perfect.
What do you think about ‘Bad Mother’?
Don’t you think guitar’s sound is very nice (this kind of reverb)?
And globally the IL’s sound is really good.
Whatever Infernal Love is a great album.

Infernal Love is a fantastic album, any song that has the line “And you poured Eros maggots down my throat until I choked” has to be good.

Oh, and A Moment of Clarity??? PERFECTION!!!!

I once formed some theory that Infernal Love was a concept album with all the tracks out of order (and Nice Guys and Our Love Must Die were also part fo the plan)… but then I just decided to find a hobby to pass my time better.

Hate to be the first misery guts but I don’t its amazing. It’s good, but a bit patchy and overblown in places.

How did people feel when Andy used to say he hated the album?

I used to love the album (in particular Me Vs You & Bad Mother). But gradually, over time, I went off it.

It’s a bit over-blown in parts, just not as good as it could’ve been because the songs are strong, but the execution wasn’t great.

Infernal Love is really a specieal album. A Moment Of Clarity is pure emotion, no fake, no shit, right there. 30 seconds is also brilliant as ending track. Misery, Me vs You, Bad Mother, no need for an explanation.

I love pretty much that album but not my favourite one.It was almost entirely composed in the recording studios so they may have lost a lot of energies and concentration by rehearsing each song loads of time,it could have been a better Album.Concerning,Al Clay,I read an interview of the band on a French musical magazine (“Rock Mag”) a few years ago and they told this about him: Before begining to recordings of “Infernal Love”,He put on a wall of the real world studios a poster of a Ferrari car and told the guys:”That’s what I want to buy with the money earned thanks to that forthcoming album”

i totally agree.. one of the best albums ever made. t?’s best album definately. i love the david holmes effects between the songs too.. it makes it even more special.

about ‘30 seconds’.. wasn’t the lyrics originally like this:

“there is NO light at the end of the tunnel” instead of “there is A light..”?

i remember that i read somewhere that Andy changed the lyrics for some reason.

I always thought he changed the lyric after the producer and the label said the album was too negative already and they wanted something a bit more positive in there.

Those lyrics are in the acoustic version and then Andy finishes the song with “There is a light at the end of the tunnel”.

.. “Fuck, you waste my time…” and “fucking you got boring when it didn’t feel so wrong…” at some point in your life.

If you haven’t, you’re very fortunate.

I have, and these songs mirrored by mental state and my anger towards the girl in question.

IL was a kind of concept album, with the David Holmes musical skits weaving the songs together seamlessly.

I love the way the ‘disease’ lyric from Me Vs You fades out before Holmes’ bridging sample, and then the positivity of Loose kicks in.

I also think the battles sounds before Misery kicks in are very clever, mimicking the battleground of love.

In my opinion, T? have done better albums, but not many.

Oh yeah, one other thing about IL.

Someone may be able to correct me, but I thought the lyrics to Loose were changed, too; I seem to remember a radio session before IL was released (or maybe I heard it live(?), I can’t remember), and there was a totally different tone to the song.

Mayb I’m imagining it, I don’t know.

Gemil, you’re right about the lyrical changes to Loose.

In fact, I’ve heard early live versions of Loose, A Moment Of Clarity, Misery, Bad Mother, Me Vs You & 30 Seconds (all from 1994 gigs), and they’ve all had different lyrics.

Same is true from gigs in 1997 when they played early versions of songs from Semi Detached.

Don’t know about #1 all time, but it’s a damn fine album.

Without a doubt the most complete ALBUM Therapy? has ever done. It may not have songs as strong as Troublegum (screamager, brainsaw, nowhere, unbeliever etc.) but as an album (not just a collection of songs) beginning to end it is one of the best I ever heard without being a trumped up “concept album”. Also I think it’s probably their best produced album. Really clear, and elaborate without being “Over-Produced”. The must stood on it’s own with just enough studio tricks to help enhance the mood and work as links between the tracks.

I’ll definetly put it up in the Top 10 Most Underrated and Overlooked albums of all time though. A&M should rot in hell! for how they completely ignored this album.
