Need Advice- Solid Beginner’s Bass

#

Started by FNYANKEZ

Alright. I’ve played guitar for years, and I’m looking to branch out into bass. Can anyone recommend a solid bass for beginners which isn’t too expensive but is still quality? I’m looking to spend no more than $400 (U.S.)

Also any advice on small bass practice amps, and what useful effects I should check out, would be appreciated.

Ibanez do a few good entry level basses - nothing fancy but wont break the bank. I really like the necks on them.

i had an Encore its a Fender rip off a heavy bastard but its a good solid frame and its easy to reach all the frets i also recommend jackson and I doubt there a cheap one but if you can afford a b.c rich they make seriously good basses.

deadsetgav an pip are right. But, if you can find a second hand Fender or Ibanez, don’t hestitate. It leaves you all the more money for a small amp.

I recently bought a Crate TXB50, which is great for the living room, and even the garden. It also has nine effects on-board. But, if you’re just looking for a small amp that does nothing else but producing a sound, go for something cheap, but never less than 50 watts.

thanks for the advice. I was thinking about an Ibanez, they had some of the coolest basses in my price range. I’ll let you know what I end up getting.

That true I have a 10 Watt Drive amp and it a piece of crap it sounds overdriven through the clear channel if you the volume up ever so slightly its very annoying I have a 150 Watt Trace Elliot Commando Pre-Amp and its great I’d recommend a Trace Amp there pretty cool.

DONT’s for BASSISTS

Avoid crap like Trace and Laney stuff - its dead and buried, buy it you will sound old! Get something modern that really grinds like an Ashdown. For bedroom purposes try Park (Marshall little brother).#

You will wan’t nothing else afterwards, and you may as well dive in at the deep end with amps, if you have to determination to keep playing. Any amp CAN be turned down low.

Also, Peavy C-series is the best budget bass I’ve ever encountered… although i think they might have have replaced those with the also-good ‘Grind’ series now…

I spent a few hours at guitar center and I really liked this one Ibanez bass they had. I was happy I could pull off a little Isolation, Nausea, Potato Junkie, and Sister from my head (considering I haven’t touch a bass in 10 years), but I completely brain farted on 10-yr plan and Innocent X.

I was playing through this 50W crate bass amp, which I really liked, had good clean and distorted channels.

In the end I ended up walking out with 6 packs of strings and a Noise Reduction pedal.

I’m just debating if I really want a bass. Running out of room to put all my shit.

Completely disagree. My Trace had a fantastic sound and I had a Laney 60w that served me well for years.

I wouldn’t take a Park amp over a Trace or Laney for all the tea in China

nor would I. I meant a Park for bedroom practice.

For playing louder/gigs its gotta be Ashdown. Crate are fantastic too
