HIM has been around since 1996 looking the same and sounding the same, even though they have gone mellow when the years has passed by, so I don’t think so that they are “new” Darkness. I cannot see why the kids are the main marker to HIM as they are “grown-up’s” band. I understand that the “gothic” part attracts to children but if I had, let’s say a ten year old kid who sings “join me in death” I would kill her/him… :p

All because Bam Margera likes them. Music’s not that bad, but buying it is another matter.

I think that Bam being so big fan ruins a lot, as people who think that Bam is shit, thinks then that HIM is shit too. People should give music a change.
What annoys me the most is that Bam has taken HIM’s heartagram symbol for his own purposes and now most people thinks that it is Bam’s symbol and not HIM’s and he stole it from them!!

I have been following HIM’s doings since 1997 and I have to say that it gives me pleasure to see them going up on the way to success. They deserve it.

I agree, but Bam also said few years ago that he will play HIM for everyone in USA to make it clear that the band is seriously great. Can’t really remember when Bam said that. In my opinion HIM made two great albums and then they took another style (I don’t even like Love Metal record) but sometimes you gotta do things to pleasure the commercial side. But they still have their own, original sound and yes, they really deserve all the things they’ve for now. It’s been a long, hard road from the year 1996 to the present.

But what about the Rasmus being “gothic”? Have you guys ever heard of the first album and think what kinda stupid shit they’re making now!? Well, it’s been shit all the time they’ve been making. :D

Who died and made HIM and Rasmus the new poster boys for metal???? They suck!!!! Still, Kerrang and Metal Hammer like Chemical Romance so they do still have some taste left!!!

I got no real problems with them, Charlotte has got into them so i have bought her a few albums and at 7 i prefer that to buying her steps! I saw them live once and they were quite good which suprised me. There is a bit of over kill with them in the press but that always happens you couldn’t get away from slipknot or the darkness at one point but it will die down.

I don’t mind them so much, some good tunes. Given a choice between ‘the kids’ dressing in black and listening to HIM and Nightwish, or even Rasmus or dressing like chavs and listening to Girls Aloud, I know which one I choose.

Fair point - but that is who they are trying to appeal to. Let em get on with it but on a personal level, they just dont do it for me - it feels too contrived.

You know what? I would rather listen to a Sugababes/ Girls Aloud CD ANY day over HIM/ Rasmus and all those other contrived bands.

You don’t think Sugababes and Girls Aloud are contrived?

Point taken, but yes, even in comparison to girl bands of that ilk, HIM come across as false and contrived.

What I really meant though was this: their music is better! Laugh all you like, fellow T? fans, but I honestly prefer a cheesy Pop song with a good hook to a chessy faux-metal dirge with no hooks any day.

I do know what you mean, and I suppose you’re right: pop music is _supposed_ to be like that, or at least it’s something we’ve come to expect.

But I’d still rather listen to HIM than Girl’s Aloud. :)

I like my metal with a bit of humour attached to it, stuff like Rob Zombie which you can just bang your head to yet see that its fun and intentionally lowbrow. I think humour is very important cos it stops you becoming some sort of cliched angst metal shitheads who sound just like the Darkness without the comic factor.

Just think of them as ‘gateway bands’ to better bands. The leap from shite like Sugababes to the good stuff like Therapy? is far greater than from Rasmus.
Still don’t mind Him though.
