I think the best place to search for a book about it is on the site of ESRI. Here the link to the store: http://store.esri.com/esri/.
There you can search for whatever you need ;)
It’s possible they won’t make/sell new book for ArcView related things, because it changed to ArcGIS. But I have no idea if this change has any influence on Avenue…
I hope this helps you a bit…

that they don’t sell new things for arcView, that’s the main problem.
but until everybody is really working with arcGIS, you still need arcview…

and working with arcView is no problem for me…but i’m writing now also extensions for it…and for so far, i can only use the help in arcview itself, but it would be nice to read a bit more about it :( …
or to have a nice little collection of examples of scripts

and yes, arcGis is not working with avenue anymore…but i haven’t worked with arcGIs yet…that’s coming in january :)

but maybe i have luck one day and somebody is selling his books on ebay…

but it’s nice to see, s.o. knows what i’m talking about :D

Maybe this book is what you’re looking for…(if you replace ebay by amazone):)
Otherwise I guess you can find a lot of examples of scripts on the internet. It may take some time to find them, but I think you can built yourself a nice collection with those.

I know, most people give me strange looks when I mention the word GIS ;)

I study geography…I had a GIS course 2 years ago (about ArcView and Idrisi). But since I’m in my last year I have to make a thesis wich is about GIS, more specific: 3D analysis. ArcGIS has an extention ‘3D Analyst’, wich is very interesting for me ;)
But now I’m a bit curious, what do you use it for?

well, when i was studying i had also some courses in arcview and using the extention spatial analyst.
and i needed it for my diploma-work.

but now since i don’t find a job…well, better said, since, nobody wants to give a young and motivated woman (esp. in a men-working-field…and i thought s.th like this doesn’t excist anymore  silly me…) a chance, because they prefer men or those with 5 or even better 10 years of working experience (yes, i’m starting getting a bit frustrated) i’m kind of back to school and doing a further education to become IT-Manager for Geografic Informationsystems, including ArcView/ ArcGis, Geomedia, MapInfo and the extensions Dialog-Designer, 3D-Analyst, Spatial-Analyst, Network-Analyst and whatever…and of course that also includes avenue :)

hmm, geography…half of this course here, is full with jobless geographers…you have the same problems in belgium too?

Sorry to hear that…
But ectually no, everyone I know (from the higher years) had a job after a month… There’s one little thing with this maybe: I study geography, with the option ‘surveyor’ ,and so did the people I know. It means that we have actually two diplomes when we graduate (surveyor and geography), and so we can find work where the geographers can’t. I have no idea if the ones who studied geography, option geography have any work-problems. But I guess not, because there are always hanging job offers on the wall next to the secretariat…
Maybe you should move to Belgium :)
