Went to see them in sheffield last night and what a fucking gig! Brilliant atmosphere and crowd, the whole place was jumping, and its put me in the best mood that I’ve been in for months!

They brought out an album call Truth and Lies earlier this year. A good album, but nothing like they once were though. Saw them in Swansea a few years ago and they were great.

Levelling the Land (91)
Levellers (93)

…those were their best albums and should be remembered :D
All of a sudden, the band started sounding like OASIS in the late 90s…that’s when I totally lost interest in them.

Simon Friend should have started a band of his own

The bassist is the happiest man alive. OIn stage I’ve never seen a guy so happy and into what he does. He absolutely loves it from what I can tell. Who can blame him, he has a fantastic job!

No, he’s the second guitarist.
As far as I remember, he once had the opportunity to join New Model Army but Justin wouldn’t allow him to sing his own songs  bloody rockstars… :D

I notice The Levellers are about to release a re-mastered and expanded version of their first album. All I have by them is a best of I bought about 12 years ago (I felt there were a couple of surprisingly weak tracks for a best of, so never bothered looking further into them).

Considering getting all their albums now as most of the older ones have been re-mastered, so it seems like a good time to get into them. The only downside is that the bonus tracks are stuck on the end of the album, I’d prefer if they came on a second disc so that the original album stayed as it was meant to be and the b-sides etc were kept separate. On the plus side if the bonus tracks are “complete” then it would be a good way for me to get all the old b-sides, as they don’t seem to have any b-side compilation albums out.

So, to buy the new re-mastered and expanded versions, or to buy the original versions with the “correct” tracklist… quite the dilemma, I’m sure you’ll agree! :-)

They may look like jovial tramps, but they sure can craft some good tunes!

Didn’t really mean the band, just the fanbase.

I dont really know what the band look like, I imagine somewhere between dexys midnight runners and a may-day protestor.

One member of the band actually perfectly fits the idea you had for a typical fan.

I don’t suppose anyone could help me out with the b-sides from the Truth and Lies album? I’ve bought pretty much all their other singles, but the ones from that album are pretty expensive (and I only want one b-side from each CD). The singles are Make You Happy and Last Man Alive (although it’s the b-sides from them that I want, not the singles themselves).

Buy as many albums as you like, it won’t get worse. I’m still showering regularly. But I will check this theory at Levellers’ Beautiful Days Festival in August…
