You Fat Bastard chants

#

Started by Pete? (Guest)

well, it seems that Andy is counteracting ‘em by losing weight. I saw em at the Electric Ballroom in October, and he WAS entering into realms only previously encountered by Dino Cezares.
However, He has lost one hell of a lot of weight, I mean he can get into a pair of leather/pvc trousers now! But at the Ballroom gig, when he came on, he seemed to be encouraging the crowd to chant ‘You Fat Bastard!’.
Just my opinion, he has lost weight though!
Maybe the fans can start chanting it at Graham! (He’s put on some weight!)

My point exactly — it was sort of encouraged at the Astoria…and when I said it was a tradition, I didn’t mean an English tradition — just a tradition at Therapy? gigs. Everyone I’ve been to someone starts it off. And Andy stands there and appears to lap it up. If he just got on and played the next song without reacting, he could easily stop it happening. But he doesn’t.

At the gig in Dublin on the 11/03/00, the usual cries of ‘You fat bastard’ were met with derision by Andy, far from encouraging it, he basically turned around and said that he may be fat but he was happy, everyone else can go around attempting to be wafer-thin if they want, but he can’t be arsed. That soon shut them up.

I was absolutely astounded when I saw T? in Cologne in October (having
only previously seen them in the UK) and no-one started the chant off.
Is it always like that when they play abroad, or was this an isolated
incident?????

I was there at the Manchester and Liverpool gigs last year and I thought that Andy dealt with it like he couldn’t care less anymore. For instance he just came out with a load of food at the encore and started hurling bread and crisps into the crowd and it was pretty funny. It’s just a part of going to Therapy? gigs whether he’s a fat bastard at the time or not.
