i’ve got a behringer x-v amp pedal for guitar, and at £45 i’ve gotta say its a bargain. There are 100 built in sounds and you can create new ones yourself using the effects on offer. It has a wah pedal too. Now admittedly, these sounds aint incredible, and the wah pedal aint a patch on the crybaby, but for home recording and private use its pretty fucking excellent. Wouldn’t have thought it would stand the test of gigging, though.

Oh, its got a built in tuner too.

Highly reccomended.

I’ve got a thing called GeNetX Guitar Work Station that seems to be pretty similar. The cool thing is you can record digital demos on it. Anyway, for it’s shit for playing live. So now I wonder, what do the masters of pedal use like Radiohead or Muse use for concerts? What effect pedals are there, anyway? Wah-Wah, Echo, Ya Ya… what else? It’s probably better do get all these effects seperately instead of using one combination pedal, isn’t it?

Maybe, but the advantage of the multi-effects units is that you can switch on/off more than one effect with one touch.

For example, you may have a crunchy rhythm sound and you want to change to a lead sound for a solo with more gain, chorus and a bit of delay, and with a slightly different EQ setting too with more mid-range.

Now, by my reckoning, that’s at least four pedals you’d need to kick, all at the same time!

multi effects units are pretty darn fantastic, and much simpler than having a line of pedals all over the place. Although to be fair if you’re a wah fan you’ll need the crybaby, i personally don’t think they come any better.
But, as i said, if i were in a gigging bad i’d rather have a unit.

Good call, yeah, gotta have a Crybaby wah.

the problem with muli FX units isn’t that they are bad per se more that most people (including me )can only afford the cheaper ones, which obviously aren’t as good.

thats the thing, if you want one you’ve gotta buy a bloody good one!

As i’m the sitting at home on my own *sheds a tear* type musician the behringer does me just fine. :)

Mine’s fairly shite but as I am a bt of a meat and potatoes kinda player (i.e. I like a pretty un-FX’d sound), I maily use distortion and reverb, which even the cack ones can manage ok. :)

True, though you could put a line-select pedal in front of two series of stomp boxes, and you’d have the same result.
