I’ve been to their site in the meantime and I must say that it’s not really something for me. Today I’ve been listening to We Are Scientists. I must say they’re better on album than live because Apartment blew them away 2 months ago opening for Editors.

I like we are scientists, but they aren’t likely to stay on my cd player long, they aren’t particuarly groundbreaking.

I still reguarly listen to The Arcade fires ‘Funeral’. Its amazing

And I recommend the Bright eyes album ‘I’m wide awake its morning’.

I don’t know, is V2 still an Indie label? The question is even if Rough Trade is an Indie label. I think it has become too big. But in spirit all these bands are Indie I think.

I’d mostly call those hardcore or post-hardcore, to be honest.

That sort of depends on what you classify “indie” as I’m guessing he means it it the Independent way and if so he would be right, but if we are going with it meaning a genre of music then you would be right:) I still go with R’n’B meaning rhythm and blues but the youth of today would just stare at me blankly!

I’m not really sure what the point in classifying bands is, other than to give someone a general idea of what a particular band sounds like.

Agreed, though it’s all starting to backfire now, what with no one really having any idea of what counts as any particular genre anyway! :)
‘What do they sound like?’
‘They’re Indie.’
‘Ah…’ *blank look*

I hate trying to classifying things, it always ends up being so vague and you sound stupid.

Yeah, indie is a completely redundant category these days. As I said earlier, there’s Belle & Sebastian and Pavement… ditto for Arctic Monkeys and Keane. Nothing in common at all.

Went to see Editors last night in Ghent and I’m not going to say anything about that concert because that was as great as the previous 2 times I saw them. This time they played a new song however, Weight Of The World, and that was simply brilliant.

This post however is to say how awful The Brakes are. The first 4 songs they played were each 45 seconds long and then they played 2 semi-recognizable songs I knew from myspace and a cover by Camper Van Beethoven, Take The Skinheads Bowling but they only played the verses not the chorus. Then they played a song for the vice-president of the USA called Chesney. The lyrics go like this and they were supported by a couple of crappy powerchords: ChesneyChesneyChesneyChesneyChesneyChesneyChesneyChesney you’re a Dick. Then they played some kind of a country song and to close the set they played another crappy 45 second song.

The worst thing is that I’m going to see Editors again next week and The Brakes are opening again then.

I want We Are Scientists and Apartment again.

King Adora, remember them! The front guy used to be in the Blaggards, who used to play in Birmingham all the time - they had a song called something like I Wanna Be In The Sweeney, which even had a snippet of the theme of said TV show in it.

I don’t think there’s a particular genre called indie anymore (dunno if there ever was), but here are some new bands I like that might be summed up under that term:

Amusement Parks On Fire
The Futureheads
Okkervil River
The Rakes
I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness
