Ginger’s Valor del Corazon

#

Started by Superunknown

As promised here’s a thread about Ginger’s new solo album.

Obviously my opinion on it has not been proven by repeated listenings, yet, but I think I can already say that this is the best collection of songs Ginger has released in a very long time, mostly because he’s not trying to be The Hellacopters or Gluecifer and just being Ginger. That means he sounds more like Cheap Trick than The Hellacopters again and it also means that you can hear his 80’s influences a little too well (“Yeah Yeah Yeah” is such an obvious “You Shook Me All Night Long” rip off), but it also makes Ginger’s music a lot more natural. And he’s really jamming a lot on this album, showing what a great musician he’s become over the years (“Ten Flaws Down”!).
It’s amazing that after loads and loads of songs he wrote for The Wildhearts, Clam Abuse and SilverGinger5 he still can come up with a double album! What’s even more impressive is that he wrote that stuff in such a difficult period of his life (see The Wildhearts Homepage for the details).

So, what do you think?

I’m not totally convinced. I am a massive wildhearts fan and I think the album is slightly lacking.

I cant put my finger on it but I wouldn’t class it as his best work.

I’ve just ordered it, I get the feeling its going to be a more subtle affair due to recent experiences Ginger has had. I’ve been following the Wildhearts for over a decade now so I think anything he or they release will mean something to me.

Gotta be CD 1 I think, but why put 8 tracks on one, then 11 on the next?

Mother City is a great choon!

Ugly does sound like its from Endless.

I think its track 4 on the on CD 2, that goes on for ages and keeps changing direction and tempo completely, is reminiscent of Sky Babies.

I think its a pretty damn good album, with some serious social undertones. Hope Ginger has achieved some kind of therapy from making the album.

yeah i got it too , not that much of a big deal just a spelling mistake on the side of the album and a random v on the back of the cover , some lucky buggers who ordered 2 copies have made themselves a small fortune selling them from £30 upwards , ohhh the wonders of ebay :D

i shall be attending the london gig , was hoping for a welsh date but its getting less likley so couldnt risk not seeing ginger and got the tickets, it’ll be well worth the trip across the border im sure lol :D

I prefer CD 1 as well,i think Ginger should have maybe cut the some of the song lenghts down or left a song off the album and made it 1 CD.I’ve never really been a fan of double albums.

I never really saw the problem people have with double albums. It’s as if one would have to become more nitpicky just because they are longer.

The only song I don’t really like on that album is “Your Mouth”.

I liked CD1 much better till I saw them live - the live experience is a big part of enjoying this album. They’re stunning live by the way.

I know could listen to them both back to back, but I wishthey’d left about 10 seconds off so they would both fit on the same disc.

I think VDC is one of the best things Ginger has ever done and it’s got a good chance of being my favourite album of the last 10 years

If you rip the CDs to your computer, and get an 80 minute CD, using Nero you can fit all the tracks on a CD, provided you remove the 2 second pauses between the tracks
