Arctic Monkeys

Ok, there’s no arguing against the fact that these guys have had way too much hype and NME coverage - and check out the stupid amount of 5 star reviews on Amazon - but , aside from all that cack, what do YOU think of Arctic Monkeys..?

I quite like Franz Ferdinand, although the second album got pretty tiresome. But it’s the stomping drums and angular guitars on the Arctic Monkeys albums that remind me of them. Lots of the riffs are incredibly Franz-esque, only without the pompous charm that makes them what they are.

Yes, overhyped!
I Like the album though, fun, but it doesn’t have a long shelf life I’m afraid.
I think the NME got it oh so very wrong placing them at no.5 in the best british albums of ALL TIME!

Not my cup of tea, I suppose, but I don’t think they’re awful. They just don’t deserve the hype.

Actually, having thought about it, yeah, they’re fucking awful.

Definitely overhyped but if you give the album a fair chance without being prejudiced. It’s way up there with albums like A Certain Trigger, Stars Of CCTV, Employment and You Could Have It So Much Better. Still no Silent Alarm though.

All of them albums also have little shelf life I’m afraid(with the exception of ‘silent alarm’).
I certainly agree with alot of people being prejudiced about the album before they have heard it. The whirlwind of hype has really forced alot of the ‘Individuals’ to judge them before they have heard it, and it is a strong album. No indie classic though, I’d much rather be listening to belle and sebastian or the old smiths and Joy divison albums anyday!!

I heard them for the 1st time the other day and I have to say, was most disapointed considering all the hype they get. You know the NME though, they hype and people follow. Maybe thats why I hate it!

“Up there”? or did you mean “down there”? ;)

Think that people will probably get tired of Arctic Monkeys soon, but …Dancefloor is quite good. I think they’ll burn out fast though.

Hard-fi are inexplicably popular. They are crap and dreary and not the new Clash at all. Joe Strummer must be laughing in his coffin.

Indeed!

I heard on Kerrang! radio this morning that they have added a second date at the Wolverhampton Civic after the first sold out…Contrast that with the last time I saw Therapy?, which was in the smaller Wulfrun Hall (in the same building) and was half empty, there just ain’t no accounting for Joe Public’s taste, is there?

They supported Green Day last summer and were dreadful. Hard To Beat is definitely a good reason to retune your radio.

T? fans are an elite and therefore will remain few in number. We rock though, doncha think?

We certainly do ;) Fortunately, I got to the Green Day gig late enough to miss Hard-Fi, which was a shrewd move on my part.

And just how shit a name for a band is Hard Fi?!

One of the advantages of not going out anymore :)

To be fair I’m sure I’ve unknowingly heard them in shops etc. but I’ve made no concerted effort to listen to them as I have no interest in music created by a bunch of toddlers ;)
