Started by buffalo-boy in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Does anyone know anything about electronics on guitars?
Live I use a Squier but it has a horrible electronic hum emanating from it! is this because it is’nt earthed correctly as it stops when i touch the bridge/strings? Hiow can I remedy this? Cheers WOM’s if you know anything!

I have a cort, and with two different amplifiers (Kustom, Laney) it does the same thing. (but with the Laney not so loud, so it’s not a problem).

When I put the Overdrive effect on there is the hum, but it’s ok: noise!!!!!!!!!

You can often massively reduce hum by coating the inside of your guitar with metal. either line it with metal tape (which is the way I’ve done it), or get a copper spray, which sounds awkward, to me. Then connecting the metal ‘box’ you’ve made to earth _should_ make a big difference. Go for the tape option: it’s really cheap, and easily undone (unlike accidentally spraying copper paint over your guitar…)
EDIT you’re really supposed to coat the _entirety_ of your guitar’s insides. It needs to be as close as possible to a sealed metal box
