Has there ever really been that long between announcing an album, recording thw album, promoting the album, touring, and announcing another album?

It seems some bands just disappear off the face of the earth for a couple of years and suddenly leap back with another album.

You forgot something here: The gap between infernal love and semi detached was three years. And in this three years I only found one (!) story covering t? in german music mags.
I guess that was the time when many ‘troublegum people’turned away from the band and forgot about them, as other ‘big things’ happend around this very time.
Sad but true.

Id say there’s also been a gap from semi-detached until now. It’s true for most people they justdont know they are still around.

ive just found out upto now that troublegum sold 2 million worldwide, seriously.

Hmm, you sure?

Coz I read in one of Andy’s diary entries that they have sold an overall total of 2 million worldwide, from all albums. Not just for Troublegum.

Nah, to be fair, they were were still pretty successful during the Semi Detached era - the album got to no.21 in the UK charts and both the Church Of Noise and Lonely Cryin’ Only singles got into the top 40.

It wasn’t until a year later with Suicide Pact - You First that they started to lose their commercial popularity.

Yup,

As far as I remember they lost tons of fans when SPYF was released.

One of my mates (who is just as mad about T? as I am) almost gave up on the band entirely when it came out.

Wasn’t until we saw the tunes live that we warmed up to it.

Great album, just not when on which commercial success can be claimed - don’t think it did well sales wise.

It has been a slow gradual climb upwards since HA onwards. The would need the promotional backing that A&M provided in order to get back into the public eye (haven’t seen a single poster or flyer or ad for that matter since the album has come out).

And there is no Music Video as of yet - despite that they are unlikey to make MTV, this is still a bad idea in my books as rock fans watch music channels like Scuzz, Kerrang etc. anyways over MTV.

I’ve been on a different planet. ‘They’re pretty big in America’. Have I misunderstood?

A&M never released Semi-Detatched in the US (bastards!), I didn’t even know it was around until all the Internet music shops started poping up and I could get the Japaneese version (which in a way was a bonus since it came with Suing God & 60 Watt Bulb). Even before that A&M was dropping the ball, I saw almost no official stuff for Infernal Love either. I found out about it from a great review in Guitar for the Practicing Musician (don’t ask I no longer have it).

A&M clearly didn’t know what to do with the band.. so that didn’t help keep their visability up after Troublegum.

But of course they weren’t putting out rap-metal nor are they a hair band.. so that had something to do with lackluster US sales in the late 90s.

Why oh why did they make SP…YF at such a crucial stage in their career?! Great tho it is! They should have made HA at that time! The Ark 21 era will be looked back at as being quite a weird time methinks…

Cos that’s where they were in their lives and creative minds at that time. If the HA songs had somehow all been known at the time of SP-YF, the album would have sounded a lot different from the way HA actually does…

They really should have made HA instead of Infernal Love I think, by the time of Suicide Pact the damage was already done.

yeah, but you can’t make music on the off chance you think it might sell! You gotta make it for yourself before anyone else.

Maybe the label need to make a promo video of ‘Deluded Son’ and see how far they can push it - this band deserves the effort :(
