It’s meant to be one of the most listenable stuff he has done and major labels have been after the album so i’m guessing it has chart potential.

“The musically versatile Mike Patton has been talking and, when that happens, a lot comes out. The singer, songwriter, musician and producer has been hard at work on a long list of interesting projects, including the highly anticipated debut of Peeping Tom.

The former Faith No More member’s first of three Peeping Tom albums is scheduled for a May 30 release. The 11-track outing features a massive mix of genres and artists, including: Montreal’s Kid Koala; Odd Nosdam; Doseone and Jel of hip-hop collective Anticon; Dale Crover of The Melvins; Massive Attack; Gorillaz beat box man Dan “The Automator” Nakamura; Rahzel; Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs; Amon Tobin; Bebel Gilberto; Dub Trio; DJ Disk; and Kool Keith.

“It’s very slick — it’s a groove record,” Patton told MTV News. “I used programmers and producers from the electronic world and the hip-hop world, in some cases.

“If there’s a sound to [the record], it leans into those worlds. There are simple structures. I’m singing, there’s lyrics — to me, it’s a pop record. It’s something I’d want to turn on the radio and hear.”

The biggest guest contributor to the album is Norah Jones, who contributes vocals to the vulgar “Sucker.” “You won’t recognize Norah,” insisted Patton.

“She’s cursing her ass off. It’s insane. She’s like a cruel vamp, and it’s super sexy, hot and, yeah, cruel.”

Among Patton’s other projects are: running his own Ipecac Records label; reconvening with Nakamura to start work on a second Lovage album to follow 2001’s lounge-y Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By; work on another Tomahawk offering; and lending vocals to three songs on the forthcoming Massive Attack album, Weather Underground.

Patton is composing soundtracks for two movies, including Pinion (a film by friend Melanie Lee), and has lent his voice to an in-development PlayStation 3 game called The Darkness. He’s also planning a trip to Italy, where he’ll record an album’s worth of arrangements of ’60s pop tunes with a string orchestra and full choir. While there, he’ll visit composer Eyvind Kang to work on a collaborative classical choir piece.

I’m a bit dissapointed. I thought Peeping Tom was going to be rock or pop, but all these rap and electronica influences don’t sound too promising to me. I hope it’s not going to be like Lovage. That was an okay album, but not more and I’d like Peeping Tom to be something special again.

Anyway, cool to see Patton is working on so many projects once again.

Title: A General Patton Thread

As Mike Patton does seem to be a busy bloke and I’m sure i would start a new thread for each new project and take over over threads with chat about him, I thought i would make a General Patton thread to chat about things he has been involved with. I know that there are a lot of FNM fans and Patton fans out there so hopefully will justify a thread to himself. Also any projects that he has done that people don’t know about can be made aware of here:)

If Hooch (sorry:)) is able to Merge the Peeping Tom and Maybe the Fantomas thread into this one then it will all be nice and neat:)

Well my favourite Albums by him so far are
FNM-King For A Day
Tomahawk- Mit Gas
Fantomas- Directors Cut
Lovage- Music to make love to your old lady by
Mr Bungle- California

For Hooch

Okay folks, i’ve seen a few posts here and there with mention of the man Patton, so heres your chance to put forward your fave Patton moments. Or maybe you hate the fella, heres your chance to slate him!

Me, personally, i think he’s a God amongst men. Fave project has to be Tomahawk.

I have FNM, Tomahawk, bungle and fantomas albums, anyone wanna reccomend other Patton projects?*

*Except the adult themes voice thingy…
