Why is it so fecking hard?

#

Started by zipless

I’m still struggling to quit smoking. Why is this bastard so damn hard to get rid off? I mean, I quit drink & drugs without a problem, so it can’t be that hard, can it?

One of the reasons smoking is hard to quit is because of nicotine receptors (they also react to acetylcholine and carbamylcholine, not just nicotine) in the nervous system. They are found in most areas of the body (the atonomic nervous system, neromuscular junctions, brain), and are numerous.
This would explain why smoking is hard to quite pysiologically, as continued firing of these transmitors would create a feedback mechanism (basically a vicious circle) when smoking.
There is also the physcological effect to be taken into acount. Pysiologically nicotine is a stimulant, however once it enters the brain and upon concious thought it apears to act as a tranquilizer. This, taking into account that most people suffer a nervous imbalance (i.e. the body is always under stress due to homoestasis), this would also atribute to the above stated vicious circle.
Hey, you asked. :P
Also wanders outside to smoke…

I gave up a month ago. I’ve failed a few times before but this time I just did it with no nicotine replacements or anything.

I think you just have to do it. Decide you don’t smoke any more and then don’t smoke. This is the only method that has worked for me!

Try reading Allen Carr’s book, “Easyway to Quit Smoking”. I’ve read some of his stuff and it’s very interesting. Definitely worth investing in.

This picture should put you off anything sexual for life… Especially when you consider that two people had sex and THAT was the result.

@Hooch: And how are you nowadays? A lot of people tell me that they just decided and stopped, end of, no looking back… Guess I think too much about it.

@Mr SelfDestruct: Aye, read it, stopped, forgot about how bad it was and started again

I’ll give it another go… in exactly 4 days time! And I’m gonna save me a helluva lot of money!

i wouldn’t bother trying to give up, just keep going until it kills you! :)

Yep, thats right, honesty. Don’t struggle, if you wanna do something, do it! You’re not hurting anyone else! And besides, passive smoking is a myth.

Fine now. After about three weeks I went to a dinner party and got drunk… then I really craved a cig (I realise this won’t be an issue for you!) - I demanded a drag of one and I swear it was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted in my life. I genuinely don’t understand how I managed to smoke for so long and not repulse myself with the stench. No more cigs for me, ever. FACT!

cigs have no taste at all, and i’m still craving for the ritual ones (ie: when driving, drinking coffee, talking on the phone…)

this time is the first one, and it has to work..

it will…

hehe..

but feck, that’s so much frustration…!

Sarah, remember: you’re not only cheating yourself, you’re also cheating… well, just yourself, really. But you’re you, so you’ll never get away with it. You’d notice.
