I don’t know where you get this information, I didn’t hear anyone say here Green Day are shit (probably another thread), I don’t like them anymore though. But I don’t understand why you compare these 2 bands with each other, they don’t have much in common, do they?
They play punkrock, and both are around for a very long time… that’s all, I guess!

Look at the label only, that must say enough, Green Day is on a mayor label, they make their stuff available for MTV and other commercial TV and radiostations. That’s something NOFX refuses to do!

Thats probably why they cant afford decent producers and all their albums sound awful.

I agree with what Nicky Wire said : ” Why would you be in a band and NOT want to be big ? “

I don’t see what’s so awfull on the production of their albums they are perfect! And I don’t want them to make overproduced albums like U2 does!

They are big where they want to be big! That doesn’t mean they should be on television and radio, that’s their own choise, and that’s what punkrock is about!

If you don’t like them, that’s fine with me, but there’s no need to bully them, because they don’t do what you think a band should do!

I think production wise, coming from a professional view of things the production of there albums have been great the last one imperticular, but they are a differnt sort of band to Green Day and don’t have huge budgets but they stand up against there albums easily. Maybe some of the earlier ones, the production was thin but green days first few sounded terrible. So your arguement is slightly flawed

Also the whole “being big” is stupid if a band are happy with their size then what does it matter?? I wont even comment on nicky wire as i have nothing nice to say about the man and his mouth.

But at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste, I have no problem with Green Day and saw them on the last tour. I side with Nofx because of their work ethic and prefer there songs:)

But some bands go out of their way NOT to be succesful. I think it was At The Drive In who split up when they finally made it saying they didnt want to be successful…

So why would you take all those years of forming, writing and gigging to split when you made it ?

Would you build a house and then knock it down when you had finished ?

Some bands get big and still have the rights to their songs…

I dont see why everyone turned on Green Day when they got really big either. I dont think they are in the same pop punk league as tripe like bowling for soup and New Found Glory, and they certainly arent emo…American Idiot is a fine rock album.

Yeah, but there are groups who’d rather just be allowed to do it for the love of creating music, without having to worry about how much the next record will sell and so on, and getting big is obviously going to be a bit of a hurdle to this. I agree with the building a house thing, but what if they never intended to build the house? (This sounds like a clumsy metaphor now that I’ve got my grubby mitts on it, but whatever…) If a band set out to perform, write, tour etc out of a love of music, and they feel that getting too big would stop them from creating the music they wanted to make, and take them onto a new level which they find hostile/cold/not as preferable as the one they started at, why should they carry on doing it?

My stance on the whole thing: It’s a bit stupid to like a band for becoming successful - if that’s their aim, then fair play to them. However, I don’t agree with bands who change their sound to do this, or who blatantly pander to the public for sales in such a way that they become more like a business than a band. I don’t dislike a band for becoming successful - but sadly, most of the groups who become successful I dislike already or I just dislike because I think, well, that they’re crap. I guess me and the general public think very differently on a lot of things.

And to be honest, Green Day don’t bother me much (certainly not as much as a lot of other bands anyway), I just have a tendency to be antagonistic :)

A lot of people with a successful job, take another job as soon as the thrill of becoming successful is gone. I think that’s comparable rather than building a house and knock it down again.

NOFX IS successful in their own style!
why is this thread changing into a splitting band thread, have I missed something!? :(

Damn right it is!!! What’s the problem with success???

So when (yes when) the new Therapy album is a smash hit worldwide we’ll see a mass exodus from the WOM??

I withdraw my comment! :D

But it drives me mad when good band makes it and then becomes “uncool” due to success! It’s monday morning and I’m tired!!

And back to the topic…

Oh squall another pointless post, thats very unlike you! we know you don’t like them..why you even bothered to reply to this thread baffles me? You make me laugh how you have a minor shitfit the moment someone has something bad to say about a band you like and how they should leave it be..then come out with childish comment like that basically doing what you complain about. Grow up mate, i don’t like having a go as opinions are opinions..but as I said this was to Soul Doubt really.
