I’ll cry. Do you want to see that? A full muscled drummer crying because you picked on him? Do you? Well, do you?

“full muscled”? When you do your weight training, do you go:

“One-a…two-a…um…um…Bollocks, start again…One-a…two-a..fou..no…three..no…BOLLOCKS!!!”

And, for the record, I play guitar, bass, drums, bit of keyboard and even some vocals now and then. Bass is by far the best instrument. Ever.

Guitar can be fun, but its generally for braindead, styless wanabees who can’t play the damn thing, but can afford lots of effects pedals to make it sound like they can (The Edge, for example), or tune down to drop tunings so its really easily (bowling for soup, Wes Borlan, vast, vast majority of others), or they can do really technical stuff, but again lack the style to make it worthwhile (Trivium, for example).

And, sure, most bass players suck royal testicles, but the ones that stand out are by far better musicians, and without exception better people than their stand-out guitar playing counterparts.

So there.

For the most part I agee :)

The thread was only started cos some bass player pissed me off, nothing serious!

I agree with many of the guitarist summaries, but, you know ,there are SOME good ones out there, surely?!

EDIT: the main problem with the bass is that so many people choose it because they think it is easier than learning the guitar (like, just cos it has less strings? Dur!) - which is bullshit of course - and people who really have no musical tendencies end up in bands cos the more musically inclined want to be the guitarist and get to show off, so the people who should never have picked up a bass get into a band cos there’s not enough good ones to go around!

Hell, yeah. Not saying I’m one of the good ones, but at least I can say that I played guitar for years, and chose to play bass because I prefer it a whole hell of a lot more.

Looks like we finally broke him, guys!

Heh heh…

And you’re totally right. Too many failures playing bass… especially in bands like Coldplay etc. I mean. Professional musicians. They’re only job in the world… and they’re shit.

Like pole vaulters.. only job in the world is to jump over a pole with another pole- that’s all they do. Ever watch them? Falling on their ass every time?

Or the guy from slipknot who ‘plays’ metal barrels with a bassball bat. He can’t even do it on time! These people are travestys… travistries… bastards, but as long as there are genuinly skilled musicans out there, whatever instument we and they play, we should, and will continue admire they ability and adore their music.

Couldn’t agree more - well put!

As for the dude in Slipknot (a band I DO like, despite not really knowing why..) I saw them at Download and guess what, the roadies come out and SOUNDCHECK THE BASEBALL BAT AGAINST THE BEER KEGS!!!

“Testing 1-2-3..WHALLOP..Hmmm Bit more top end, it sounds a bit too un-barrelly, Derek, maybe…?”

You’re a right cheeky bugger. Wait ‘til my mate Neil “Super” Cooper hears about this…

(By mate, I mean he is a drummer too, which therefore qualifies him as being my mate, as no-one other than drummers want to be friends with drummers)

I may have referred to Dave Lombardo as God in a thread today, in which case Neil Super Cooper (lights are gonna find me…ahem) is at least Prince.

No wait, what does that make Prince…?

*confused*

Apart from the aforementioned Dave Lombardo, Neil Cooper and John Blackwell, I’d like to mention Joey Slipknot (yeah I know I know..) and Alan “Reni” Wren of the Stone Roses.

I also thought Rick Buckler(The Jam) and Mike Joyce(the Smiths) were good. Oh and Spencer Cobrin (ex-Morrissey) is one of my favourites but I always forget him.

And no ,technically I am not a drummer, but I do play drums at home for my own pleasure. Just ask the neighbours.

Dennis’ Neighbours: “Yes he does. And he’s SHIT.”

Not much use to me i’m afraid!

a) i aint got a cocking clue what “youtube” is, and
b) i aint got broadband

I’ve just googled him, mind. So, he’s just a drummer? No Band? That sounds…well…dull :D

Why does everyone think he’s so fucking good?! Yeah, he’s fast, but he’s also VERY sloppy and he plays with Slipknot.

Good (if predictable) call on Neil Peart, though. Word.

I’d like to bring Tim Alexander and Claude Coleman into this discussion. Masters of Rhythem.

I noticed that but I didn’t think that, being a drummer, I’d highlight the plan. There was a plan, right guys? ;)
