It’s clearly acceptable. :D

mmmm…

not only that, it should be mandatory!

Which, rather neatly brings us to “mandatory suicide” and Slayer! Hurrah!

Heres my 2 penneth: Loved the decade of aggression live album, loved divine intervention, not heard owt since then, and thought Reign in blood was completely overrated.

Just wondering, that nail thing kerry king wears on his arm, is it real?

I have a nasty habit of dragging threads off course, so i thought in this instance i’d bring it kicking and screaming back to its original point!

Kerry King didn’t really have a lot of choice in life did he? I mean, it’s like that Johnny Cash song, A Boy Named Sue, he was always gonna turn into a screaming-solo playing satanic-metal writing, nail-thingy-on-arm-wearing bald twat, wasn’t he?

that nail is a tool to restring his guitar. he got it after his abduction. so technically it’s not a nail but a tracking device’s antenna. I’m not sure if the arm is bionic but some people have claimed that Lombardo’s legs are and whatever is being said about Araya it’s not true, he only bit it, never swallowed it.
But the way I think Slayer’s last album deserves some props for this line only: “I keep the bible in a pool of blood so none of it’s lies can affect me”. I see some conviction there and also obviously a new technique for erasing printwork.

Jeff Hanneman had other options though, didn’t he? A simple rearrangement of his name and he’s “Jeff - Handyman. For all your handyman needs.” Would fit nicely on a little business card.

I personally cringe every time I hear that line…I mean, if you don’t like the Bible…why keep a copy of it anywhere, never mind in a pool of blood?!

And since when has a pool of blood been an effective lie-detector? Surely the Police would have been using them ages ago, had this been the case.

I never understand why bands like Slayer obsess over religion..surely that makes them as bad as the fanatics they are bashing..?

I dig those kind of lines ‘cause they make listening to metal a sensible thing to me. It’s so OTT it can’t be serious, but shouting along to it and headbanging at breakneck speed are a sensible thing to do with that kind of metal. Y’know I dig Behemoth a lot too but their lyrics are like these small scholar books about chaosmagick and thelema and all kinds of cults that I have no affiliation with. They even write additional explanation besides the actual lyrics. Then I start wondering if this is meant to be taken seriously and if these guys are dangerous or just very harmlessly committed.
Bashing onto religions is indeed easy, but it should never really stop, religions are just wrong imo. I’d go even further and say that the universal bill of human rights is flawed because it states that there should be freedom of religion. If someone adheres to a religion than he’s not free anymore. And that last bit in this rant should IMO be the central theme in all these reliously motivated metal, punk, rock songs if (that’s a big if) they’re meant to be taken seriously. And if they’re not then anyone can place the bible and the torah and the dead sea roll and the koran in any liquid they find suitable and I’ll shout along. I like catchy y’know but meaybe sometime it’s too much to ask for catchy and intelligent and intelligible.
Pff I really shouldn’t be on forums today.

Agreed - I think Slayer come with a fair amount of silliness and also I feel uncomfortable with some of the lyrics, but, hell, there are some cool riffs and drumming and some great headbanging moments, so sometimes all that other stuff just doesn’t matter.

Now that I come to think of it, there’s at least one band that gloriously qualifies, and we’re all on their forum  Maybe move this thread to “general T?opics” then?

On the other hand, if you can get Kim Deal (mid-80’s version, not the expanded 00’s edition) to stick her digits near me, you have a , erm, deal.

Hard to imagine now that Therapy? were ABOVE Slayer on the Donington 94 bill.
