New Ihsahn (Emperor) solo album

#

Started by mr self destruct

There are a few Emperor fans around, anyone got this?

Excellent music, like Emperor with more orchestral parts but…too many fucking crooning/falsetto bits for me! I really didn’t like this aspect of the last two Emperor albums and there are loads of them in The Adversary.

Heh, would have bought it anyway…but like I said, I’m not overly keen on the operatic vocals, though the music is ace. Maybe the crooning will grow on me but from Ihsahn I expect 100% evil black metal vocals! :)

Anyway mate, home in one piece?

The musicianship on this album is great by the way, some really really technical bits!

Cool…what do you think they’re up to, testing the market to see how commercial a property they are and how well they’d do by a reformation? Because they’re doing American ‘farewell shows’, which is a bit weird as they did them in the UK about 6 years ago. Cynical, me, naaaah.

I think so. I’m hoping so, anyway. The intensity of their playing is unparallelled. I don’t think any band could have followed them and sounded like anything but a pub band doing AC/DC covers.

One of my friends went to an instore signing they had on Saturday, he said they were all really friendly.

Probably. People had flown from all around the world to see them. I’m hoping that they realise that they’re not dead yet and want to keep making more music with the rest of the band.

If they did I think we’d see less ‘Emperor’ and more ‘Ihsahn’ in terms of writing the music. Pretty obvious he’s the one with all the talent, you only have to compare Samoth’s Zyklon shit to Ihsahn’s solo album to hear it.

It was more a dig at the people who claim I’m a Naysayer.

I’m not a Naysayer! (whoever does a joke about being a Naysayer regarding being labelled a Naysayer gets kicked in the nuts).

I just don’t like crap things and if you don’t like me expressing this fact all the time, then just move back to the USSR.

Have you been taking lessons recently in “How To Talk Like a Yank”?

Heard the album through once - need to have a listen to it again tonight… Its not as black metal as I would have hoped but I will give it chance ;)

I was hoping the operatic bits would grow on me…but they’ve only started to irritate me more :D

Can’t fault his musicianship though :)

The New album is a fucking cracker… heavier production than the last album and just quality from start to finish. The track with the fella from Opeth on it has a good contrast with both their style of singing.
