Andy’s Les Paul

#

Started by Man of Five

Does anybody know what model andy’s new les paul is? I know he’s been using SG’s but right now I’m considering on buying a new guitar and I’m wondering if I should get a Gibson…

I can afford Gibson Les Paul Special and Gibson Les Paul Menace… Also some SGs…

I was thinking on getting the Menace but I still need to find and try it somewhere…

I was wondering what model Andy’s guitars were to see if I could actually afford those (but probably not :( )

I thought Andy nowadays uses a lot of Framus guitars, same as the amps… Never tried any of them guitars, but if you want a rockin’ Gibson Les Paul, maybe you’ll find something in their custom build section?? http://www.gibsoncustom.com

I’m pretty sure the Les Paul type guitar he was using in the paradiso show is a Framus.

It’s the semi-acoustic, yeah?

Oh, and if you do get a Les Paul, get a studio version, because they actually look good.

It seems forever that Andy has used a telecaster huh? :)

i can afford gibsons as i said…

i can afford gibson les paul menace, gibson les paul special faded, gibson les paul special with humbuckers, gibson les paul vintage, gibson sg classic with p-90 humbuckers, gibson sg special, gibson sg menace, gibson faded sg special, gibson les paul special with humbucker…

my problem is i haven’t tried most of these guitars… my local store had gibson sg special faded and honestly when i played it i thought it wasn’t worth its price at all… but that is the cheapest guitar there… i’ve also been hearing that gibsons have poor quality control so you might get really lucky or unlucky with them i don’t know if that is true…

because i’m gonna buy it online (the site is really cheap the prices at my local store is about twice they have it online) i’m having many doubts… if i could afford it i’d go for a les paul studio or custom but unfortunately i can’t… i was hoping the menace would have better quality than the specials but i’m no gibson expert at all… i’ve just wanted to get a gibson les paul pretty much all my life but never thought i could afford one. now that i can i wonder if i should get one of the lower models or should wait until i have enough money for a custom.

i play mainly metal, punk and rock… i don’t think i’ll ever play blues or jazz but still i’d like to have a guitar that gives me a certain diversity, with nice clean tones as well…

In my opinion you should look at a few factors when buying a guitar. Cheap price may be great, but if it sucks when you play it… And as i said before in a different post: Epiphone is great too. But always TRY a guitar before buying!! nothing is more shitty then racing home with your new guitar and finding out there that it’s not worth the money you paid for it.
Really, go to guitar shops and try them all! You’ll thank me afterwards…

i guess i’m not getting my point across

this is not going to be my first guitar…

i’ve been through what you’ve been telling me…

in this case i do not have the option of trying it… i am asking the opinion of those who might have tried any of those guitars…

thanks…

Personally, I’d go with the SG classic with the P-90s. Anyway, there’s not much difference between Gibsons, they’re basiclly the same guitar in different shapes and finished etc. they polay like Gibsons, so if you go to a local guitar shop and play any Gibson, it’ll be pretty close to any of the ones on your list. My Dad’s 1979 Firebrand SG Deluxe feels pretty damn similar to my Voodoo V, as well as my mate’s SG standard- there’s differences, sure, but you know they’re both Gibson instruments because they feel and sound like Gibsons. So, if you try any Gibson and you know that that’s the type of guitar you want, I reckon you’ll be happy with any of the guitars on your list.

I have a Gibson SG special, which plays very nicely. I think with the specials you definitely get what you pay for; they certainly are great guitars, but definitely NOT top of the line. They have a slightly ‘sticky’ neck. Hope some people know what I mean here. Just the finish. Unless you sand it down like Zakk Wylde! I have no complaints about it though. Nice low action and it’s balances nicely, UNLIKE the epiphones.

If you want a decent les paul and don’t want to stretch to the upper price gibsons, I hear the Epiphone les paul custom is EXCELLENT, and truly comparable to a Gibson, minus a few small details. I’ve had my eye on one for ages now…

Hope this helps

Joe.

I’ve got an SG Special w P-90s and a Les Paul Classic, and they are VERY different sounding. Not all Gibson’s sound the same.

I’ve got three differnt types of Gibsons and they are all very unique sounding, especially the SG w/P-90s.

Definitely try the different types of LPs, to make sure you get the one with tone you like best. You may want to try an LP-Studio. They’re a step up from the Fadeds etc, and have a similar tone to the LP Standard, but are cheaper than the Classics and Standards.

Due to the different hardware(the metal versus ceramic pick-ups), there’s a wide range of tones across the LPs.
The action may play the same, but they will sound different.

Don’t necessarily get one just because someone else has it. Try it out on your gear (or something comperable) first. You could end up buying one guitar, get it home, and have it sound nothing like you’d hoped. (You sound like you know what you’re doing, but when you’re talking that kind of money, it never hurts to repeat it)

Yeah, different Gibsons SOUND different, but most feel pretty much the same, to play, and the sound is shaped far more by the amp than the guitar itself, anyway.

I thought the Epiphone LP Custom WAS about the price of a Gibson LP anyway?

so just before i made my purchase i went to my local shop to see if i could find any good guitars around the same price i’d feel really good about..

and i fell in love with an ltd viper 2005 (30th anniversary edition) and ended up buying that… it looks kind of like an sg but not really…

http://www.guitarshop.net/espviper2005.htm

you can get a picture and specifications here…

i really loved how i felt playing it and also i was amazed by its sustainability. i also liked the fact that it’s stringthrough as what i have and have always played was floyd rose tremolo locking systems. i thought something different in my equipment could a lot of diversity.

i tried it for quite a while in the shop and it didn’t get out of tune or anything and i’m gonna pick it up today (due to some credit card problems in the shop) and i’ll make sure i check it out once again just in case…

i’d heard negative things about ltd before but this guitar just made me fell in love with itself…

i also tried an ibanez along a same price range with a few other ltds but none of them felt as good as this one…

thanks all of you for helping out… it was probably all of your insistence that made me go and try a few others from the local shops anyway… i could probably find the same guitar a bit cheaper online but it’s probably better to get what you play anyway…
