Anyone interested in football?

What’s your favourite team?

Mine is 1860 Munich; they ended up fourth in last year’s German Bundesliga but lost to Leeds in the Champion’s League qualification.
Currently, they are 13th and are going to be relegated if they keep on playin like that. Today, they lost 2:4 to Bochum who are last in the table.

For the British football fans:
My favourite English team (and I love English football!) is Fulham FC.
They’re gonna rock the Premier League next season!

I like football too. The team i support is Olympiakos Piraeus. This year we were just so unlucky at Champions League. We won all the games here in Athens, but we also lost every game abroad. We even lost by a really useless dutch team named Heerenven (or sth like that). We won 2-1 Olympique Lyon in Athens, but thanks to that goal they were at the next round, even though we had the same points.
When i was younger i also liked other teams, Celtic or Athletico Bilbao, but now i am just interested to Olympiakos.

I’m a football fan too! My dad used to take me to the local football club, FC Den Bosch, when I was a kid. I’ve been living in the same city since my birth, and I have been visiting matches for about 10 years now. The club is pretty notorious for its supporters, perhaps you heard about the riots in Den Bosch last December, which were linked with football ‘supporters’. Anyway, they play second division now, but they are 10 points clear now from no. 2, with only 7 matches to go, so I think they will play first division again next year.
Besides FC Den Bosch, I also support PSV Eindhoven, who will probably retain the title. Today, they will play against Ajax, the club I hate most! PSV has had some bad luck in the Champions League, they almost made it to the second round this year, they even beat Man United with 3-1 at home! They were also responsible for the elimination of Parma, but they were very unfortunate against Kaiserslautern (for the 4th time in a row!), they were far better, but they lost because of two penalties, and they missed a penalty. This penalty thing is something which will hunt the Dutch for eternity, they just can’t score a penalty (qt. final’s EC ‘96, semi-finals WC ‘98, semi-finals Euro 2000…).

I am supporting Feyenoord…and before somebody starts nagging: Not all Feyenoord supporters are HOOLIGANS!…It’s one of the best supporters groups actually, they never turn their back on the team(like Ajax supporters do!)…but I wouldn’t be to unhappy if Ajax beat Psv today…btw, I think it’s good Van Nistelrooij is back, he is a real sympathetic player!

PSV have really lousy supporters, I have to admit that. btw, they beat Ajax, 0-1! Feyenoord lost at NAC, 1-0, so they won’t leapfrog PSV now! Isn’t that great, both my fav teams are league leaders, and both are 10 points clear of a team from Rotterdam. So that makes it 2-0 in the Brabant vs. the rest battle, eat that suckers!
Oh, Ruud van Nistelrooy started his career at FC Den Bosch, so it’s clear where he learned all his skills. And Anthony Lurling also started at Den Bosch, he’ll play for a top team very soon, trust me.

I don’t care about the commercialism, it’s just so boring to watch on TV, I really can’t do it. However, I am proud to say that I’ve been to see Sunderland play before, when I was 11 and a huge football fan. Ha, they sucked. I like playing football ‘though I prefer basketball. Football is like a religion, it scares me and people get addicted to it and it’s weird.

European teams are nothing compared with the ITALIAN teams… examples: FC Milan, Juventus, Inter, ROMA, Fiorentina… (and many others like my fav team, Vicenza, the city where i live)
but also all football champions come here in italy to play the best football league ever… (have you ever heard ‘ronaldo’? or ‘batistuta’ (here he’s ‘batigol’)… and also italian players are the best in the world… some names: vieri, baggio, del piero, vialli (he’s player manager in an english team), zola, totti, del vecchio, inzaghi, etc. etc. etc. We also have some good coaches: do YOU know GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI? now he’s the national team (i will speak about later) coach, and i think he’s very famous in germany, where someone has made a song with one (very famous) interview where he was speaking about ‘strunz’… that is funny because in italian ‘strunz’ sounds really close to ‘stronzo’ that is ‘idiot’ in italian…
noW: last time ITALY won the world cup is in the far 1982…
and we are the 2nd (afrter brazil) in number of world cup winning…
and in USA we lost the final play with PENALTIES!!! and so it happened in france!!!!!!!! in the final play in USA with brazil all italians were watching roberto baggio that missing the penalty… sigh sigh!!!! (but we are the best football players in the WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!)

italy has lost most of its glory, hasn’t it? there’s no italian team in the champions league quarter-final and the national team doesn’t seem to be that brilliant anymore although they’ll qualify for 2002 very easily. here in germany, it’s the same problem: you have bayern munich (red bastards; our local rivals) and nothing to follow although they seem to struggle in this Bundesliga season. Anyway, they have most of the money, the by far best (and best-paid) players and will probably be germany’s #1 for years.
in my opinion, the by far strongest league is the Primera Division in Spain followed by the English Premier League where ‘GLORY FULHAM FC’ will play next season.
1860 Munich, my club, is still 13th and fighting against relegation…

Oh my, don’t get me started about those damn Italians…

‘94, World Cup: They really sucked throughout the whole tournament, they were lucky in about every game, and they didn’t deserve to win. I was glad actually that Baggio missed a penalty, so Brazil won the tournament.

‘96: They were a joke, they didn’t even make it through the second round

‘98: Same story I guess, they didn’t play very well, and they were eleminated before the semi-finals

2000: The ultimate nightmare for the Dutch soccerfans. Italy was by far the weakest against Holland, but they were lucky. You guys must have stronger nerves, because the only reason Italy made it through the finals was becuase Holland just can’t take a penalty, and will never learn to. I really enjoyed the moment Trezeguet (I think it was him) scored the winning goal in Sudden Death. And justice for all…

It’s the second year in a row no Italian team was in the quarter final of the UEFA cup. This is no coincidence, Italian teams aren’t as good as they used to be, and the Italian soccer isn’t fun to watch. Indeed, Spanish and English teams are the strongest now, just look at how many teams are still in the European tournaments. 3 Spanish and 3 English teams in the Champions League, and of the 4 teams left in the Uefa cup, 2 are Spanish, and 1 is English. Besides, the best players in the world aren’t Italian. Vieri is class, so is Nesta, but there aren’t any unique superstars like Zidane or Figo.
I’m not saying that Holland is the best soccer nation, but for a tiny country like Holland, we match up quite well against the other big soccer nations. Moreover, Holland has some world stars too: Edgar Davids, Jaap Stam (forget Nesta, Stam’s the man!), Edwin van der Sar, and Ruud van Nistelrooij is the coming man. Then there are some great talents like Mark van Bommel, Kevin Hofland, Arjan Robben, Rafael van der Vaart, and so on. So start trembling y’all, we will get you all again some day. Vengeance will be ours…

…some of the players you told play in italy…
AND i hate italian soccer because players are paid TOO MUCH!!! i heard about a player that gets about 500’000 euro per season…
and yes it’s true italian teams are in a strange period: there are many problems with drugs, and also with illegal passports (!) for the players…

You’re right because Strunz used to play for goddamn Bayern Munich…

500.000 Euro per season - that’s rather cheap, isn’t it?

You probably mean 5.000.000; there are some players earning that sum like Vieri, Batigol, del Piero, Zidane,…
Recoba even gets 7.5 million Euro a season althoughn he really sucks, I think.

Germany’s best-paid players might be Effenberg, Elber (Bayern), Rosicky (Dortmund) and Balakov (Stuttart) who earn something like 4 million Euro a year.

I’d work for half of the sum…
