Trainspotting or The Acid House

#

Started by fatboy

Right, thought I’d have a bit of an Irvine Welsh theme going here. I’ve been watching the Acid House like mad over the last couple of weeks, yet I can’t decide which I liked better - Trainspotting or the Acid House.

If I had a gun to my head I’d go for Trainspotting, because it came first yet the Acid House, though not as successful, is just as good yet a little…ed up.

By the way, books are, as always, a lot better.

i’ve only read one of his books, Ecstasy, and i’m afraid to say i hated it! REALLY hated it. :D I don’t “get” him, if you know what i mean.

I didn’t think the Trainspotting film was up to much either to be fair. Grim as fuck.

The grim bits were the best. Most of the rest of the film was totally ridiculous.

Trainspotting the book is amazing - the film only covers about 1/4 of what happens. It was alright though.

After that I tried to read Marabou Stork Nightmares but couldn’t get into it all. Strange one.

Huge fan of Irvine Welsh, he’s a sick fuck.

Trainspotting is probably my favourite film ever not to feature light sabres and spaceships.

What they REALLY need to do is make the book Porno into a film.

1) Trainspotting (lots of stuff about NI and football that the movie leaves out)
2) Glue
3) Maribou Stork (loved the dog / fireworks bit)
4) Acid House
5) Filth (Was tough reading about a Hearts supporter for that long - how did Irvine feel writing it?)
6) Porno (shite)

I hadn’t read any Irvine since porno came out and just got Ecstasy the other day - enjoyed the first story so it’s looking good so far :)

Has to be said, I thought Porno would’ve been better if the Trainspotting characters weren’t in it. That said, its a good book, but not a great one.

Glue was brilliant, and so was Mararboo Stork Nightmares. Filth I got a little bored towards the end, but Ectascy, whom most called his worst, was good. In saying that, it was my first book of fiction that I bought for myself and it was after that I started reading books like the Beach and the Football Factory.
