Thanks for mentioning it Den. The man was brilliant. There aren’t many artists who truly leave a faultless legacy, but he’s one of them. RIP Syd.

Goddamn, thats winded me a bit. I play the first 2 Floyd albums quite frequently, they really had no peers. To my mind theres no-one else in british musical history who just “dropped out” like that. I mean you’re talking abot a band who were darlings of the scene back then, so for one of them to just walk away from it all and retire home is pretty shocking. I urge everyone to check out early floyd if you haven’t already.

To be honest, I thought he died before I was born and that was the reason why David Gilmour took over as a lead singer. How wrong was I?

Heard it yesterday , always sad to see one of the great ones go.
Think he was always gonna drift out of the music scene as the pressure of fame seemed too much to him.
His drug intake probably acted as a catalyst too.
Oviously he was still loved by the band , with Waters dedicating songs to him ( as recently as Live 8 ).
In the words of the song written for him alone : SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND.

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - what a classic album. I’m not a massive PF fan but Syd’s work, though brief, was fantastic. I was sorry to hear of his passing.
Rest Easy, and…I’ve got a bike, you can ride if you like, its got a basket and things to make it look good, I would give it to you but I borrowed it.

All that can be said about this fragile genious has been said already by you lot, I guess. You really do him honour!
I heard ‘Piper’ for the first time when I was twelve and it hit me like an atom bomb. I still consider it the best PF album ever.
To those of you who never listened to Syd’s solo albums I’d like to say:”please give it a try”. He wrote some amazing and brilliant songs like Dominoes (with a solo recorded while the tape was played backwards), It is obvious, Terrapin, No good trying, Octopus, etc.
Syd will always shine on for me!
